Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

FIX: Apple support had me restore Ipad via iTunes and set up as new not with any back up. This fixed the issue. I would say there still needs to be a software

update but they found that when they had me run a diagnostic there was a corruption in the back up..

So basically restore ipad and redownload iOS 9.1 with iTunes, and set up as new. Took about an hour.

Exactly the same issues with my 128gb iPad pro. Mine has now shut down each morning after charging through the night. Ipad pro will not open. Hard reset (pressing sleep and home button for 10 secs) starts machine up again. Speaking to Apple senior technician he said take back to store for replacement.

Am happy to do this only with the knowledge that the issue is fixed for good. No point in changing to another iPad if exactly the same thing happens in 24 hours time. Setting up an iPad is easy but time consuming.

One thing that is s is also surprising is that if you close iPad pro using the smart cover, the Volume icon disappears when trying to adjust volume. Does not affect sound affects icon, which is bizarre. The volume goes up and down but there is no visual display. To remedy, you have to press sleep button to turn off display. Turn back on again. Come out of lock screen and go to music or Youtube and miraculously the volume buttons work again. If you use the smart cover again the icons will disappear again. SOOOOOO frustrating.

I checked on my old iPad and same thing happened. I am surprised there are not more posts. This is a software issue surely??

Seems the new iTunes has more than one glitch!!

I figure that the problem must be related to some housekeeping tasks that iOS does when the device has reached full charge.

I've had success by doing the following;

  • disabled backup to iCloud
  • Under settings --> Privacy --> Diagnostics & Usage, set "Don't send"
  • I enabled Siri and "Hey Siri" which by default were both disabled.
  • Turned off "Do not disturb", Manual and scheduled.

Most of the above settings would be disabled by placing the iPad in flight mode, so I'd bet that the issue can be narrowed down to something in this list.

So far, I've gone 24 hours without problems and I have been trying to replicate the bug by keeping the iPad on charge at 100%. So until iOS 9.2 is released, this seems to have worked for me.

New to this post and have not read through but I have seen this issue with past apple portable products and always suggest that when You first use a new apple product that uses rechargeable batteries completely drain the battery i.e. Use it till it runs out of power before connecting to power supply. So again I suggest if experiencing this do a hard reset then run the battery down to "0" and let it sit for awhile so the battery really discharges, even overnight, then plug it into charge completely too "100%" which just might fix it. The short of the long is the OS might be seeing the batteries current status incorrectly or in this case that the battery is "0%" so the iPad can't turn on till you hard reset.
