Ipad Pro shuts off while charging and requires a hard reset to turn on

Hello,

I got my iPad Wednesday, spent the evening getting it all setup. Restored from back up, ensured everything was there, wiped my iPad air 2 (sold it), deleted it's back up and went on with my normal routine.

At night it was down to 40% so I charged it and went to bed. When I woke up it was "dead". It wouldn't wake up. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to come to life. Worked on it for a couple of hours and had to run an errand. Plugged it back in as I was going to need a full charge later that day. Came back to it, same thing. Dead. I needed to perform a hard reset to get it to turn on.

Used it more, then last night plugged it in and this morning, same thing. I am thinking that there is an issue with this iPad.

I am now restoring it, since that it what online support recommended I try. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks.

iPad, iOS 9.1, This is an iPad Pro

FIX: Apple support had me restore Ipad via iTunes and set up as new not with any back up. This fixed the issue. I would say there still needs to be a software

update but they found that when they had me run a diagnostic there was a corruption in the back up..

So basically restore ipad and redownload iOS 9.1 with iTunes, and set up as new. Took about an hour.

My first two days I charged overnight and IPad pro, 128 WiFi, was dead. Had to do a hard reset. Sunday night I turned the "Handoff" off and was good to go yesterday morning and did NOT need to do a hard reset. Just to do a little experimenting I turned the "Handoff" back on last night prior to charging for the night. This morning, I was good to go again with no hard reset. So - who knows. Two mornings having to do a hard reset and two mornings not having to. I have used the charging cord that came with the IPad pro every time. I'm perplexed????

My guess is that 9.2 will come before the US Thanksgiving holiday, which is Nov 26.

There are 2 ways that I know of to get the 9.2 beta:

1) Apple's iOS public beta. After you add your device to the program, the beta is available in Software Update.

Maybe some of those who have done it can confirm that the 9.2 beta is available like this.

2) Apple's developer program. I think it requires the subscription. It's a more involved procedure to update, which I think includes backup and restore.

Given that I think it will be fixed next week, I'm going to wait.

My workaround? Don't charge it overnight or to 100% very often. Just charge it during the day as I use it.

Well, the 14 day is pretty much a window that says, "This is crap I hate it, take it back". i.e. you don't have to have a reason to return it, you can just return it. Every apple hardware item I've had has a 90 day full warranty that pretty much says if something's wrong with the product in 90 days they're going to make it right and I've had issues with new products on occasion and they have made it right in that window. The 1 year limited warranty generally gets treated the same, but is stated that way because if your dog pees on your iPad during that window they're not obligated to replace it... (my point being that in the past I've had a child come into my room while I was sleeping because they were sick, and threw up near a month old iphone (getting particles stuck in the microphone) causing my iphone to quit working in a useful capacity, and because I was in the 90 day window and the Apple genius replaced it for me pretty much after I was done explaining what happened.

I'm sure that this issue is something for which a software resolution is going to fix, but if it's a hardware issue we do have a 1 year warranty on it. Defective screens, switches, boards, etc, would fall under that warranty.

Don't know if anyone has tried it,I did post yesterday.

I Bought my iPad pro a week ago, charged it overnight, and like most people,it was dead.Tried everything, but it wouldn't come back to life.Eventually held home and power button together for ages, probably 20 seconds or more, but Apple appeared and then all was fine.

CHarged it again that evening, and back to a dead screen.

AFter a lot to searching and trying different things over a couple of days,I found the solution for me anyway.

GO TO SETTINGS,THEN ICLOUD,THEN BACKUP IN BACKUP PRESS BACKUP NOW,

EVEN IF ITS BEEN DONE AUTOMATICALLY RECENTLY DO IT MANUALLY.

I THEN CHARGED IT FULLY AND NO PROBLEMS AT ALL SINCE.

I DONT HAVE SIRI ENABLED IN FACT THAT WAS NOT ONE OF THE FIXES THAT I TRIED.

IT worked for me and obviously the person I got it from.

WORTH A TRY

I cannot say why, but having been 4 days since I tried this fix, I can unequivocally say that making sure the "Hey Siri" function is set up and turned on fixed this issue for me. I would encourage all who are experiencing this to give it a try. After having it not wake from charging 5-6 times I found this thread and tried this fix. Since then, not one issue.

well as promised i am providing an updated. I have the ipad pro 128 wi-fi --cellular model. it did the usual black screen after recharging the first two nights I had it. Then, after I did a hard reset, I let the pro stay on a few hours, then I turned on "Hey Siri", followed by shutting the ipad down by pressing the sleep button and sliding the off button off. for 10 days the ipad pro has worked like a charm. It seems like thee are two or three options that gets the pro working properly. I think the ultimate fix will be 9.2. (I have 9.1). Rudy

I had this same problem and am now on my second iPad Pro which, you guessed it, has the exact same problem. When checking various settings I saw "Hey Siri" was disabled. I enabled Hey Siri and have not had a single issue since. If your hey siri is disabled, switch it on and see what happens. I have absolutely no idea why this would solve the problem but it did for me.

By the way, it is the only setting i changed. the only variable from one night to the next is the toggling on of Hey Siri. Good luck!

Ah, interesting, ok, I must have missed your reply about that. I've read almost all the messages in this thread. So far then the only sure fire way that seems to be effective is to install ios 9.2 beta. Fingers crossed for an ios 9.2 release soon then. (I haven't seen anyone who's running ios 9.2 say that it hasn't fixed the issue). Although for others skimming this thread and want to see what the solutions that have been discussed so far are, you can read through my posts as every few posts I try to summarize all the different "fixes" people have attempted.

QUit shilling for asus please. This thread is about bringing visibility to an issue so that it is fixed in the next update of iOS. The people contributing to the conversation either have the problem as described and are looking for some sort of fix or interim fix, or they are attempting to help others fix the problem or give them hope about an upcoming resolution to it. Shilling another company's product isn't useful, and only shows that you really just dislike the apple products in the first place.

Also, to the people that say I can't believe you have to restart every night, you don't have to. The majority of people in here have been able to resolve the issue temporarily by turning on siri and hey Siri. I've not had the issue occur again myself since doing that. Either way, Apple acknowledged the issue faster than Microsoft has acknowledged their surface book issues (a product that at it's top end is 2.5x more expensive than a top end iPad pro).

IF you are in this thread, reading posts from people shilling other products, the rule of thumb on the Internet is that in a help forum, if you come across people posting about using a different product multiple times, then they're getting paid to shill that other product.

IF we were to use ignatz logic then people should return every other tablet on the market for the fact that they have to be reset or on their first bsod. There is no os immune to software glitches.

AS far as being defensive in this thread; no one is being defensive, we're trying to ensure that outside third party company shills aren't hijacking the information provided in this thread with constant bombardment of get a different product messages when there's an easy temporary fix, an official statement from apple that they're working on it, and a potential fix on the horizon with an imminent release of iOS 9.2.

My ipad pro did the same after I swapped a bad charger out the box. Put on charger about 10:30pm and went to grab it next morning with black screen. Did a hard reset and immediately went to battery usage and notice that the battery usage and standby info was blank after it had charged all night. Let it sit from time I went to work at 2pm until 10pm and ipad still 100% and still battery and standby info is blank. What my theory is that it is either the battery, charging ic, or firmware in which how the charging ic is controlled. Seems like once the ipad gets 100% instead of stopping the charge, it is powering down the ipad pro. Personally I think it's a software and hardware issue. I plan in going by apple to see the version of ios they are running on the demo units because there is no way they haven't experienced this issue considering the ipad are alw a ys plugged in.. But at the same time if it's 100% when it is already powered on it would drop below 100% therefore never powering down. With siri off the issue is definitely there. Going to try my 10 watt charger with siri off and see what happens. Also check your battery usage to see if it records hrs and minutes and not blank. I will post back my findings on a 10 watt charger tomorrow. I will then conduct the same test with siri on and both chargers. Considering loosing sales I could see why Apple pushed this product and seeING that 9.2 was right in the mix afterwords to find a fix. Apple definitely knew of issue to some aspect but due to shareholders demands wanted to push it out anyway. All about money and not about the consumer. Invested want to see profits and I am sure they agreed but due to this forum and many more, I am sure sales will decline and they will learn a valuable lesson once money is lost. If not fixed I could see apple dropping the price or doing what they did with the iPad 3. I'm not worried because I bought applecare so I have time on my side

Also the reset isn't painful and I can live with it till it is fixed. 32 ipad pro gold
