Problem running some apps with El Capitan!

I have 2 Macs, MacBook Pro (17-inch, Mid 2009) & MacBook Air (13-inch, Mid 2012), both running El Capitan 10.11.1.

I installed MS Office 2016 and Dropbox in both. In MacBook Air they both run Ok. but Hang in MacBook Pro.

I searched the net for answers but did not find any. I'll appreciate any help.

Remark:

1-The only difference between the two is that MacBook Pro has Norton Internet Security installed. But I disabled.

2- I repaired permission.

3- I uninstall these apps and reinstall them.

Non of above made any difference.

I run the AHT and got this error:

4SNS/1/40000000: TB3T-128.000 error.

I looked it up and found this:

Hardware Test Error 4SNS/1/40000000 TB3T-128.000

which indicate that its a sensor error and I should ignore because I had my battery replace.

I'm thinking of removing El Capitan and reinstalling Lion and then install these apps and then upgrade to El Capitan.

What do you think?

To my knowledge that error is not normal. The only "sensor" related errors that can be ignored are the following: Mac notebooks: Apple Hardware Test may report SNS alert when power adapter is not connected - Apple Support

Apple Hardware Test runs independently of any operating system software. Erasing your Mac and reinstalling Lion won't fix that problem, but you are welcome to try it. That would eliminate any remaining compatibility concern. I suggested simply reinstalling OS X first, and that remains my recommendation.

You said: "Apple Hardware Test runs independently of any operating system software. Erasing your Mac and reinstalling Lion won't fix that problem."

I meant to fix the original problem I started with, not the AHT reported problem.

Do you mean reinstalling El Capitan from scratch (erasing everything) and restoring from Time Machine or just reinstalling?

I thought that's what you meant but I was not certain.

Just reinstalling, for now. Erasing everything, followed by reinstalling OS X and restoring only your User Account from the Time Machine backup is the last resort.

Hi John,

I reinstall El Capitan but that did not fix the problem, So I took the following step which did solve the problem:

1- Made sure I have latest TM backup

2- Erased my Macintosh drive.

3- Installed OS X 10.10.5 Yosemite.

4- Installed Dropbox and checked it was working.

5- Installed Microsoft Office 2016 and checked it was working.

6- Installed El Capitan with the upgrade.

7- checked that Dropbox and Office are working fine.

8- Try to migrate my old data, apps, user, etc. from TM backup without success, but that problem is a separate issue which I posted there.

OK thanks. As you know that's a separate problem so posting a new question is the right thing to do. In the meantime, as long as you have a Time Machine backup you can work with, I suggest trying to migrate only your User Account: Under Select the Information to Transfer, do not select "Applications", "Computer and Network Settings" or "Other files and folders". De-select those choices.

If you already started a migration it will have created a User Account with the name you might want to use. MA won't let you overwrite its contents so you will need to specify a different user name for another migration — if only to append something like a number or letter to the existing user name. You can either fix that problem later, or erase the Mac and start over again.
