iOS 9.2 causing lag in Logitech Create keyboard for iPad Pro

iOS 9.2 has significantly weakened the performance of the Logitech Create keyboard for iPad Pro. It had been instantly responsive--one of the very best features that made the combo feel like a laptop. With 9.2 keys strokes are dropped left and right, and there's a noticeable lag in the key appearing on screen. Very, very frustrating. I saw it referenced in this thread:

Re: iPad Pro smart keyboard shortcuts stop working

And I've seen a mention on Twitter too. What's going on? Has anyone talked with Logitech?

I'm having the same issue. After 9.2 update the Logitech Create keyboard on my iPad Pro is basically unusable because I'm having to go back and fix so many dropped keystrokes, rearranged letters, etc. There is also a noticeable lag from when I type to when the characters appear on screen where before it was instant. Must be something software related because it was right after the 9.2 update that it started happening.

Hi Guys,

I've just bought my iPad Pro today and one of these Logitech keyboards and am also coming up with the same issue.

But I think I have a resolution that may be of some use to you.

I've just gone in to the Settings menu (Settings > General > Keyboard) and disabled all of the keyboard settings from Auto-Capitalisation down to Enable Dictation.

This seems to have improved the responsiveness of the keyboard somewhat and it hasn't dropped a key yet.

So give that a go, and at least you should then be able to use the basics of the keyboard.

I'm thinking that as Apple update their software, if it has any impact on the iPad that makes it think a bit whilst you're typing then that is going to have an impact. So probably things like Predictive, Auto Correction, Shortcuts that might use a bit of processor power and cause it to think about each keystroke then might make it miss the following keystroke and so-on which is then causing the lag and missed keystrokes.

So my recommendation is for you to have a play around with the keyboard settings. Turn it all off, and then just turn on those items you really need.

This should then keep you typing whilst Logitech and Apple work together on a solution.

Merry Christmas.

Thank you for the suggestion. I have attempted the suggested keyboard settings, restarted the iPad Pro, and reconnected the Logitech Create keyboard. the result was a slight improvement but I am still seeing many dropped letters, and a space key that takes off repeatedly and uncontrollably across the screen until stopped by hitting the "Delete" key. This temporary fix may make just enough of a difference to make the keyboard semi-functional for simple and short tasks but there are still too many errors to be able to use the iPad Pro and Logitech keyboard for any serious writing. It is simply too inaccurate and frustrating. Its a real shame because I really liked writing with the two devices together when I first bought them prior to the iOS 9.2 update.

If this is not fixed by the time my Apple Store holiday extended return policy is up in mid-January, both the iPad Pro and the Logitech keyboard are going to be returned to Apple. They simply are not a usable tool as they are.

One thing I do like bout this suggestion is that at first I was all like "I don't want to turn all that stuff off though". But then I thought about why I use it - for typing on the iphone. I don't have all that stuff tunred on for my Mac and with a proper keyboard I'm actually happier ith it all turned off.

So it amkes animprovement but as oyu can see, it is n ot perfect. For me, so far I found that it is worst in Safari - as this post demonstrates.

In notes it is not too bad at all and most of the keys seem to be coming out ok.

Also, in GOOD WORK which I use for work all the time it is pretty good.

Both paragraphs above were typed in those respective apps and copied over.

Thanks for the suggestion. It's much better than nothing as we wait for a fix.

This tip does seem to improve the issue, although your mileage may vary based on the app. As was pointed out above, text area inputs in web forms like this one seem to be extra laggy for some reason. I've switched between a bluetooth Logitech Keys-To-Go keyboard and my Create for typing this and the Create is noticeably worse.

In the meantime, my Apple Store took back both my Apple Smart Keyboard cover and silicone case and extended my return period on the Create until Jan 8. Hopefully we'll have a patch to fix it by then. I've experimented swapping the Create with a $40 Insignia case and the Keys-To-Go and frankly the Bluetooth is winning right now.

It's a much chintzier solution with worse key-travel but there's very little input lag. :-/

Guses Apple needed to improve sales of their version of the keyboard,

It's the only logical reason for ignoring the problem.

Hopefully somebody will release some NON-Apple solution soon. No faith at all left in Apple. Had the came clean and spoke to this problem at all - I'd have some respect left.

It's gone so far that I would (for the first time) consider this drastic measure to restore my junk to working condition.

LLogitech will not take back the $150 case and Apple will not refund the Now worthless iPad Pro.

We are left with no option but to leave the realm of what Apple says we can and cannot do.
