Upgraded to 12.3.2.35 and now iTunes Store screens flashes

I just upgraded to iTunes 12.3.2.35 and now the iTunes Store screen flashes black. It happens 1 to 2 times per second, only the content portion of the screen (not the menu bar, etc.)

I've tried rebooting, diagnostics, etc. Does anyone have a fix?

This is my diagnostics screen:

"It's a shame Apple knows about this issue and it does nothing"

Why do you suggest that Apple are doing nothing? Do you think that they should be releasing a patch build to fix this issue without running full regression testing to ensure that no other iTunes functions are impacted by the update? iTunes' release history suggests that patch builds, when needed, are made available 2-3 weeks after an update; its still less than 2 weeks since 12.3.2.35 was released. That people are getting vague/varying answers from Tech Support is just a consequence of how Tier 1 support works; most software organizations won't add something like this to the Tier 1 scripts until the bug has been verified, shown to be reproducible, has been fixed in development and QA, and is part of a candidate release build. Escalating an issue beyond Tier 1 may get hold of someone more knowledgeable and/or prepared to go beyond what's in the support scripts, with the risk that he/she may be commenting from incomplete information (e.g., whoever was quoted in the middle of last week that a patch build would be available in "1-2 days" - which may have been entirely true for the release from Dev to Test, but not from Test to Prod).

I'm sure that Apple's development and test teams are under considerable internal pressure to get this fixed, tested, and an update made available by the end of this week, given the numbers of brand new iDevices that'll be unwrapped on Friday and the number of new iTunes installs that will result.

Why ? Because I just read what happened to other users, like "mm13si" :

"...Later spoke to another advisor who tried to brush me off and make me feel very stupid. Held my ground and got transferred to another team leader. He remotely viewed my laptop and saw the flickering himself. He also looked at the various threads in the Apple Support community....."

It sounds to me they don't even know what the issue is about..... As I said , very unprofessional conduct !

I am experiencing this same problem when accessing the iTunes Store. My monitor flashes between the store and white screen, which it never did until the latest update.

I am running Windows 7 Pro SP1 64-bit and my OS is up to date and ever since I updated iTunes to the latest version 12.3.2.35 I have been experiencing this issue. Once I started experiencing this issue I reverted back to version 12.3.1.23 and the flickering screen went away. I know that this is just a temporary fix, but it works and until Apple releases a patch or update, it will be the version that I use. This seems to be big problem and it sure would be nice if Apple would acknowledge the issue and fix it.

In response to cybecom's question, I to am running an AMD Radeon graphics card, model HD 5570.

It's a "big problem" if you use the iTunes Store. For me, the bug in 12.3.2.35 that affects sorting of playlists in the sidebar is more significant. Apple rarely, if ever, acknowledge software problems "officially", at least until a fix is ready for release. Even though there do seem to be some internal communication issues (leading to some Tier 1 support staff apparently being unaware that the problem even exists) there's been enough anecdotal evidence over the last week or so to suggest that Apple knows about the issue and is working on a resolution. As I noted previously, I can't see that Apple want to have an iTunes/Store bug affecting all the new users unwrapping their shiny new iDevices on Christmas Day!

Apple folk, if you are monitoring this thread, I may have a helpful data point for you. I am one of the folks who had the same problem as everybody else (Win7 64-bit, blah blah blah), but I tried a different fix. I used the Win7 Uninstall program to uninstall iTunes then downloaded and installed 12.1.3.6 from your site as your folks suggested early on in this thread. That did NOT resolve the problem. I still have the exact same problem under the earlier version of the program. I hope this will be a useful data-point in troubleshooting this problem.

DO NOT FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS FROM APPLE SUGGESTING THAT YOU UNINSTALL iTUNES AND INSTALL AN EARLIER VERSION. THIS DOES NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM!!! FOLLOW PhillipGMapleGlen's INSTRUCTIONS ABOVE TO START YOUR COMPUTER IN SAFE MODE AND ROLL YOUR MACHINE BACK TO THE PREVIOUS STATE. REPEAT: ***DO NOT*** FOLLOW THE APPLE TECH FOLKS ADVICE. THEY ARE WRONG NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY SNEER AND CONDESCEND. THEY DO NOT HAVE A HANDLE ON THIS PROBLEM YET.

Do you realty mean iTunes 12.1.3.6? This is an out-of-sequence release adding iOS 9 support for users of Windows XP and Vista. Whether it fixes display issues in 12.3.2.35 is somewhat irrelevant, since it isn't intended for users of Windows 7 or later. There were definitely some reports of problems with the iTunes Store screen in the previous version of iTunes (12.3.1 - is this what you meant?) though these seem to have only affected those running very high resolution monitors. Rolling back your PC to a previous Windows restore point may provide a solution although it could also have unfortunate side effects - e.g., in losing Windows updates, anti-virus protection updates, etc. In general, complete uninstallation of iTunes (including all related components) in this order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

followed by deletion of any folders (within Program Files and/or Program Files x86) left behind by the installation and re-booting Windows will enable a "clean" re-installation of iTunes. Note that some scenarios can lead to errors when uninstalling components - in most cases either repairing the item from Control Panel then repeating the uninstall operation will fix this; in some cases use of an appropriate Microsoft Fix It may be necessary.

Just suffered same problem as OP. Also spent over an hour on the phone to Apple Support. Have to say it's good and bad news, but I wish people would have a little patience with support staff - they didn't break it, and the ones I spoke to all tried to assist as best they could.

Firstly, having to be passed between 5 different levels of support within an online chat and the ensuing telephone call was not particularly good. Having to explain my problem to each of them was a waste of my time, but I politely regurgitated the information when asked.

Secondly, to the problem itself ... the support staff I spoke to also didn't seem to know much about this until I got to the last guy who did admit it looked like the problem was being reported more and more, and he also saw my screen flickering on remote screen-share, so the problem was witnessed and acknowledged.

Uninstalling and re-installing iTunes didn't help, nor did resizing the application window, or changing the screen resolution. Basically, a bug report will (if it hasn't already) be filed with the developers and it will get fixed (hopefully).

That's not what I said or what I meant. The version that I downloaded came straight from the official Apple iTunes download page located at this URL: Apple - Support - Downloads The version I downloaded is the next version on that page previous to the one we are all having trouble with. I meant what I said and said what I meant. If you have something helpful to add, please do. Otherwise leave it be.
