iPhone 6 Corrosion of sides of body leading to small holes

A gold iPhone 6 in the household (approximately 6 months old) is exhibiting corrosion on both sides of the body leading to pits / holes.

The phone has always been kept in a quality case (Speck) and never exposed to the weather or had any water damage. It is kept in a bag (not in a pocket) when out and about. It has a quality glass screen protector. It is about as pampered and protected a phone we've ever had!

I've noticed some discolouration a couple of months ago after taking the phone out of the case but was able to wipe it clean. Getting the phone out of the case today, I noticed not only discolouration but deep pits indicating corrosion.

Has anyone else seen this? I've noticed this one other thread about corrosion/rust on an iPhone 6, but can't be sure if it is exactly the same without seeing photos.

Since we've gone to such great lengths to take care of this phone, I'm super disappointed.

The same thing happened to me. The corrosion marks, although minute, can be found almost everywhere on my phone.

Ive used the apple leather case since the time i bought my 6s.

My phone has never been exposed to water and never been dropped. I take a lot of care like many of you out there. I checked my old iPhones, the 5, 4, 2G(still working perfectly) and didn't find this problem on any of them.

I contacted Apple and they told me to show my phone to a Service Provider. Lets see how that goes.

Two frustrating observations around this experience:

1. You pay almost a thousand grand and certainly dont get your money's worth. It is eventually a cheaply made Chinese Phone.

2. Apple does not provide worldwide warranty(even if Apple has a service network in the country you are travelling to)

The iPhone 4 was a glass front and rear. It would not display metal corrosion. The iPhone 2G never existed, but you may be referring to the iPhone 3G, which was the second generation iPhone. That was a plastic case, so it wouldn't display metal corrosion either.

1. Just an observation, but a thousand grand would be one million. I'm not aware of any iPhone worth a million.

2. The iPhone has never had an international warranty, nor has it ever advertised one. Warranty service for the iPhone is only in the country of purchase. iPhones are regional devices, thus the need to only service in the country of sale. Apple cannot keep inventory of all of the different regional devices all over the world.

I've had the exact thing happen. I am on my 4th iPhone this year. All replaced thanks to warranty, but still very frustrating. Every single iPhone that I have returned for the past 6 months were all returned with corrosion and pitting. Even though there was no water damage and they were kept in an Apple microfiber lined case. They also had software issues on top of it. It seems very obvious that Apple is cheaply making these phones with God-knows-what material. Becoming very unconfident in the quality of their products. I've been an iPhone user from day 1 and never had problems until now...

Yes this appears to be a problem with the aluminium casing itself corroding. I noticed last week that my iPhone 6 Plus has to pits exactly the same as in the fist photos. I work in an office and take supercare of my phones. It was in a plastic cover all bought from the official supplier of iPhones in South Africa. I ended up here when I decided to research the problem!
