My mac didn't come with Quicktime so i downloaded /Users/tamileelavallee/Downloads/QuickTimePlayer7.6.6_SnowLeopard.dmg I'm not sure if it was the wrong one because it won't open at all

We will just disagree then. (did you actually look at his first screenshot, (it shows the QT installer in iCloud highlighted not Applications), that is why it is mounted.

But he got it to open by following the instructions I posted, so it doesn't matter.

Like I said, if you double click on QTP on any of my Macs, a window does not open as you described. QuickTime Player just runs. I have the Open file dialog disabled.

You disabled it (so it won't show) but on a default setup it will, I figured he had a default setup.

Not that it matters but my comment was, it is not a Finder Window but the Open File Dialog window.
