So i was having this exact problem. I came home and couldn't sign in on any device. reset my password online and still couldn't sign in. what i found to fix the problem is a workaround at best. i created a new Apple ID account and signed in with that. Then i signed out and signed back in with my original account. it worked. i had to do this on every device including my Apple TV 4.

I experienced the same problem on my MacBook Pro. I found a solution on the Apple Stackexchange that worked for me:

Execute the following commands in Terminal:

sudo mkdir -p /Users/Shared sudo chown root:wheel /Users/Shared sudo chmod -R 1777 /Users/Shared

I did this and my problem was solved.

I had similar issue where I discovered missing shared folder in /Users. Adding a shared folder resolved my issue. Similar to above solution, here’s more detail to reproduce solution if it applies to anyone else:

- Finder > Go > Go to Folder

- enter /Users :: Go

- if no Shared folder, open Terminal to create one in /User

- Enter commands in Terminal (must be logging in as user with admin access):

- sudo mkdir -p /Users/Shared

- sudo chmod 1777 /Users/Shared/

- reboot and see if can now login to iCloud

OK, so this worked for me also finally. What's up with Apple not moving this up or even providing more recommendation to solve this issue that's plagued me for months - that's all infuriating.

but this answer:

which someone else also suggested but I had to go to page to get the real answer (the short cut command this person constructed didn't work) was the only way to get through...

This answer was the solution that worked for me:

sudo mkdir -p /Users/Shared
sudo chown root:wheel /Users/Shared
sudo chmod -R 1777 /Users/Shared
