iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

I have the same problem with mail, Safari, and messages. Links work with the gmail app. Links work in Chrome but only with a long click to get the option to open in a new tab. It appears this has happened before with 9.2.1 but I could not find an answer that fixed the problem. I do not think it started until 24 hours after the update. iPhone 6s+ 128gb 9.3.

Yes! that's all that's missing. Same problem w ipad 4 mini 64gb. Same non solution. Hope offer of fix to fellow sufferer above in a 3.1.1 or whatever happens.

By suggestion of another I left following message in Apple Insider

Good to be here.

It was suggested in Apple Communities that perhaps here could be the place to get some attention to a problem affecting thousands of us since 9.2.1 related to URLS.

URLs not working for Mail, Safari...hyperlinks.

There are over 5 forums/threads w problem. One is https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7442924?answerId=29949888022#29949888022

He... smil...

It's like the "good ol' days", when Microsoft Vista saw the first rays of light. Only thing missing is the "blue screen of death".

Apple manages to do the "no screen of death", but the effect is the same.

Some months ago, I had to replace my stolen MacBook Pro Retina 13. El C®apitan made me choose a spanking new Windows 10 portable (far lighter and less costs), which has actually displayed less problems than Apple OS X seem to have before and after the last two upgrades.

Currently I'm looking into acquiring a large tablet - pen driven. Now the iOS 9.3 debacle on my iPad Air 2 has demonstrated, that an Apple product like the big iPad Pro is no longer a viable option as a serious tool. So... I'm probably going for Windows 10 and Surface Pro for that solution.

Imagine: I will be able to use links - even the links in mail from Apple Support Communities. Currently I have to leave the couch, and start an OS X or Windows machine in order to handle a simple web-link-lookup in an email (of course, it could still be some zero-day "side-effect" from the Internet - nah - it's just an Apple Update, and they even require more than a few minor-number version upgrades, before reaching a certain level of stability. Version 9.3 is not there yet, and... sigh... ;-)

That's when it dawns on you. Apple has been in denial for - probably - years, and now the code-rot has spread so far and wide, that some of their products cannot handle even basic internet tasks, without freezing. And Apple is company that has full and exclusive control over all hardware and the complete OS code involved in iOS and the affected iOS code. There's really no excuse for this behaviour on a version 9.3 release.

The biggest problem is, that Apple typically does not acknowledge problems publicly, so you waste a lot of time on fighting known errors, that seem to exist across many updates. Apple may think, that they're a toy and fashion brand (the emphasis on wristbands amazes me), but the "toys" are often used for real life, non-decorative purposes, where one expects the old Apple adage "it just works" to have at least some relation to reality.

This is no longer the case.

I do not use toys and fashion items to solve the problems in a grown up world. If I have to decide between reliability and fun or color, I'd choose reliability anyday. Now...

Where does that leave Apple?

Updated iPhone 6 64gb to 9.3 a few days ago and been fine- until this morning.

Used safari a LOT yesterday, much more than usual, and funnily enough looking at the apple watch to decide whether to buy.

All of a sudden this morning, can't use it. Doesn't give confidence in plowing more money into apple with these probs.

Turning off JavaScript in the safari settings has worked for me, in safari.

Other apps, such as mail and WhatsApp, still ain't working when selecting links.

This apple update better come quick

Yes.

Both Notes and Microsoft OneNote freeze, when tapping a link. Every time. Every link tested.

One odd thing, though, discovered in connection with the Firefox browser. Some links do work, some don't (I haven't got the time to discover the differences), but Firefox does not crash and freeze (or if it crash'es, it behaves better, than Safari, and does not freeze).

Since Apple controls large part of the code, that accesses the internet - through it's webkit interface - most App's will probably affected. It just seems, that Firefox has been endowed with an especially robust execution platform to survive in the now standard Apple bug environment ;-)

Same here.

I am using an iPhone 6S 128GB with iOS 9.3 Built 13E234. The first hours after upgrading I'm sure it worked fine. Since yesterday no links are working. I tried it in safari, mail and other apps like flight radar.

Touching any link in any app makes my device freeeeeeeeeze and it won't get back to work until killing that freezed app.

My workaround of at least opening links out of an email I'm forwarding it to my gmail account and open the link within the gmail app. It will open it in its own browser. That works. All other ways and apps keep freezing my device.

It really *****!

Switching off Java or safari suggestions did not work. Emptying the cache did not work. Restart did not work.

As I was reading here, a system setup neither is not working, I won't do it until there is an official solution.

TWo years ago I never had issues with my apple devices...but now they're coming more often. It's to bad. What's wrong with you, Apple?

PLEASE GIVE US A SOLUTION NOW!
