He... smil...
It's like the "good ol' days", when Microsoft Vista saw the first rays of light. Only thing missing is the "blue screen of death".
Apple manages to do the "no screen of death", but the effect is the same.
Some months ago, I had to replace my stolen MacBook Pro Retina 13. El C®apitan made me choose a spanking new Windows 10 portable (far lighter and less costs), which has actually displayed less problems than Apple OS X seem to have before and after the last two upgrades.
Currently I'm looking into acquiring a large tablet - pen driven. Now the iOS 9.3 debacle on my iPad Air 2 has demonstrated, that an Apple product like the big iPad Pro is no longer a viable option as a serious tool. So... I'm probably going for Windows 10 and Surface Pro for that solution.
Imagine: I will be able to use links - even the links in mail from Apple Support Communities. Currently I have to leave the couch, and start an OS X or Windows machine in order to handle a simple web-link-lookup in an email (of course, it could still be some zero-day "side-effect" from the Internet - nah - it's just an Apple Update, and they even require more than a few minor-number version upgrades, before reaching a certain level of stability. Version 9.3 is not there yet, and... sigh... ;-)
That's when it dawns on you. Apple has been in denial for - probably - years, and now the code-rot has spread so far and wide, that some of their products cannot handle even basic internet tasks, without freezing. And Apple is company that has full and exclusive control over all hardware and the complete OS code involved in iOS and the affected iOS code. There's really no excuse for this behaviour on a version 9.3 release.
The biggest problem is, that Apple typically does not acknowledge problems publicly, so you waste a lot of time on fighting known errors, that seem to exist across many updates. Apple may think, that they're a toy and fashion brand (the emphasis on wristbands amazes me), but the "toys" are often used for real life, non-decorative purposes, where one expects the old Apple adage "it just works" to have at least some relation to reality.
This is no longer the case.
I do not use toys and fashion items to solve the problems in a grown up world. If I have to decide between reliability and fun or color, I'd choose reliability anyday. Now...
Where does that leave Apple?
