iOS 9.3 - Safari/Mail freezes after clicking links on iPhone 6S

Hi,

Never had any problems with my iPhone 6S. Just upgraded to iOS 9.3 without any issues. After the upgrade, I can't click links when searching something on Google in Safari or clicking a link in the Mail, the apps just freeze.

I tried clearing Safari history data/cache, closing all apps and restarting the phone (both regular and holding both home/power key), disabling all sorts of settings form Safari settings, but no luck.. Anyone with an idea how to sort it out?

I have the same problem with mail, Safari, and messages. Links work with the gmail app. Links work in Chrome but only with a long click to get the option to open in a new tab. It appears this has happened before with 9.2.1 but I could not find an answer that fixed the problem. I do not think it started until 24 hours after the update. iPhone 6s+ 128gb 9.3.

MAybe the issue is related to an app update from March 24th!

what are the updates you got (or new apps you installed) from that day forward??

here are mine:

STL Synchro+

GOogle Photos

ANtutu Benchmark

IMDB

OPen Table

Temple Run

THere must be some kind of link somewhere other than the iOS 9.3 update since the issue has affected iOS 9.3 and iOS 9.2 users.

IF apple devs and PR can't do their jobs, we'll do it for them!

I have none of these apps installed on my iPad Air 2 (has the problem) or my iPhone 6 (does not yet exhibit the problem - upgraded later, than the iPad).

Since almost all apps seem to have some kind of failure in connection with "links", and since almost all apps base their "link-handling" on the support supplied in Apple libraries, you see what we all see. With a few exceptions (i.e. not freezing).

Sine Apple sandboxing (protection against "inter-app" side effects) seems to be largely without effect on apps (some survive, but are affected), it is reasonable to suspect, that it is shared code, that is at issue (shared Apple code aka libraries ;-)

My 6s is having the same problem after updating two days ago. Thus leaving my device virtually useless for my purposes. Googled this issue (on my not-yet-updated iPad) only to find that these issues have been ongoing! A bug is understandable. Continuing to send push notifications to devices for what Apple KNOWS is a faulty upgrade...that is NOT understandable. I've been fighting this issue on my phone for days, yet am still getting persistent push notifications for this update on my iPad. Compounding my frustration, i seem to be unable to find an actual, specific response to this problem from Apple itself. Thanks to all of the posters, smarter than I, who have tried so many solutions for this issue.

I have had this problem with Safari and not opening links in both google search and links in mail, which also froze the mail app. I have reverted to 9.2.1 using this process http://osxdaily.com/2016/03/22/downgrade-ios-9-3-back-to-ios921/ be aware, you have to press the option/Alt button to get to where you have downloaded the ipsw. I have reverted to 9.2.1 and will not update to 9.3 until I hear it is fixed.

Apple: We are aware of the issue right now that you and many other customers are experiencing and we are working quickly to resolve this issue and gather more information about it. We document and log each case so that it gets the attention it deserves. I apologize for any inconvenience. This should be resolved shortly.

Apple: Weshould be providing updates as soon as they come available.

Me: OK, so there's nothing I can do at the moment. Is that correct?

Apple: For the time being what we could try is clearing the history and website data in Settings > Safari on your phone, or possibly even restarting it. We are indeed working on a fix for this currently.

Me: ok, I'll try that

Me: nope that doesn't help

Apple: How about Settings > Safari > Advanced > Javascript. Disable that and see what happens.

Apple: This does appear to be an issue with the javascript after the recent update, and I do see we have acknowledged this issue and are currently working on a fix so I could definitely say this will be fixed very soon.

Me: nope that doesn't help either

Apple: After you disabled JavaScript did you force quit the Safari app and open it again?

Me: Yes

Apple: Hmm, let me check to see if there are any other possibilities. I do believe that is about all we can do at this time until we are able to provide an iOS update to resolve the issue completely. Just a moment!

Me: ok

Apple: As of right now I am seeing those steps as the only options that we have in an attempt to fix the issue.

Me: Guess I'll just have to wait then.....yawn

Apple: It looks like an iOS update will be necessary to completely resolve the issue. I do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.Assoon as an update is available you will receive a notification on your device.

Same here.

Late 2012 I switched to Apple (OS X) and since I've even migrated from Android gear ti iPhone/iPads.

Now I've begun to switch back (one Windows 10 machine - joining my two other Windows 10 machines), and only have one OS X machine (mac mini) left.

Later this year, beginning 2017, I'll decide on upgrading my iPhone. My two iPads will not be upgraded to new Apple hardware, as I see things now (3.5 years after switching to Apple).

If Android starts getting serious on the security issues, my iPhone gets relegated to "emergency use". Otherwise I buy a cheaper Android with the sole purpose to act as a backup for my iPhone, when it is upgraded. In neither case, I will decide on buying a new iPhone and stay on iPhone 6 until it dies a more or less natural death.

When and how I have phased out my last Apple gear, I do not know yet. But the transition back has begun. Now I'm just more steadfast in my decision.
