Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

Then restart your iPad and see if you have 3G.

If that didn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Network Settings

Then restart you iPad one more time.

That"s right. So true. I tried several other functions on my iPad 2 that worked very well before iOS 9.3 update. They are all messed up at the moment. The whole 9.3 is a big mess. The mess that was impossible to imagine a few years ago. What"s going on Apple? Need someone who knows the systems and can produce a decent code? May be I should teach you how to test your software? Any IT proffesionals out there? I am questioning my fiture Apple purchases. Especially iPads. Got one not properly functioning already. Would not go that pass again because I am getting recently no joy from buying apples.

Hi,

I am joining the '3G not working after iOS 9.3 update" club too.

The symptoms are the same stated above. The SIM number is displayed as 'Unknown', no carrier is detected, 'no service' instead of the usual signal strength line of symbols.

Actually removing and reinserting the SIM while the device is still on (hot swap) restores the SIM's functionality. However, if the iPad 2 is shut down and restarted, the issue returns.

So it seems that the SIM cannot be 'initialised' or 'properly detected' when the device is starting up. Maybe the action of removing and reinserting the SIM kind of forces the detection.

I am happy that at least a workaraound exists, so that I can continue working. I'd be happier if this bug would be fixed asap.

Best regards

I just updated my iPad 2 to 9.3.1 and afterwards No Service for 3G. I tried your second option and have service again.

I've had several conversations with Apple Support after the previous 9.3 update and they walked me thru taking a "trace" of activity and dumping iPad 2 content in to a zip file which they have, but I've not had an update from support.

Has anyone else opened a problem with Apple Support?

After using the workaround and getting 3G working, if I then power-off and power-on 3G stops working again...this is definitely a problem that needs fixing. Following your workaround again and I have 3G working again. Hopefully someone in support/development is watching this forum and this problem.

Downloaded and installed 9.3.1 on my iPad2 this morning.

After the usual DL, prep and install process the iPad restarted itself and promptly lost cell service AGAIN.

Apple, seriously???

Planning on on heading to the retail Apple Store and politely demanding they provide a free SIM card replacement tool until corporate can get their **** squared away!

I have read all of the posts and have tried all of the solutions listed. Removed the sim card several times with all options and have placed it in airplane mode and not, turned cellular data off and on and after all of this I still have got no network connection. Even went down to ATT and had them switch out the SIM card. No luck. Anyone got another tactic besides getting a new ipad? This just might be an Apple ploy to upgrade!
