Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings

Then restart your iPad and see if you have 3G.

If that didn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Network Settings

Then restart you iPad one more time.

I tried the various methods (e.g. Reset according to the several ways shared in the discussions and Re-inserting SIM etc).

It worked until I shut-down and re-booted the iPad. The problem persisted but this eventually worked for me as I frequently shut-down the iPad 2:

- Before I shut-down, I turn on the Airplane mode.

- After re-booting, turning back on the Airplane mode has successfully detected 3G again every time.

Hope this helps...

Guys at Apple need to come up with a fix.

After upgrading to 9.3.1 I couldn't connect to 3G on my iPad2. I tried the fixes offered here and was successful a couple of times but the issue came back.

I just went to my mobile providers website and discovered the APN settings had changed from 'internet' to ''yes internet'.

Then it worked. No sim removal or restart required.

Happy days are here again!!

For those not sure where APN settings are:

Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > APN Settings

Make sure you check your own mobile providers settings. They may be different for each provider.

If this works for you please let everyone know.

Following upgrade to iOS 9.3, after going through a long song and dance with ATT involving some numerical codes, none of which worked, I removed the sim card after turning the iPad2 off, then replaced it. After turning the iPad2 back on, service was restored. NOTE THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED ON SUBSEQUENT UPGRADES WITHIN iOS 9.3 to iOS 9.3.1 (13E238), but the same solution worked. Apple should fix this. I have an iPhone 5S--does anyone know whether the same problem occurs? I've been nervous about upgrading iOS for fear of losing phone service.

Hi,

I also have an ipad2 and an iPhone 5s, the iPhone works fine after the upgrade to 9.3.1 , but the issue with the ipad2 still remains , so I have downgraded my iOS on my ipad2 to 9.2 and it now works just fine.

I think the issue is with the carrier detection part of iOS 9.3 , for older iPads .

Hope this helps
