iOS 9.3 failed verification - no internet connection

I am trying to update my iPhone 5s to iOS 9.3 as prompted by my phone.

The new software has been downloaded but this message popped up when I was trying to install it. The message says, " iOS 9.3 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet". This occurred whilst my phone is on stable wifi internet connection with me being able to browse on safari and having messages coming in and out of my messaging apps and mailbox. Besides, I can even email the terms and conditions of the iOS 9.3 update on the install page to my email address (i.e. internet gotta be working then).

I have tried several methods as suggested by others in the past i.e. 1) Killing the settings app and restart the process again and 2) Resetting my network settings. Unfortunately, none of these methods work for me and the phone is still coming up with the same error message when I try to install the update.

It would be appreciated if someone can shed some light on this please.

Thanks in advance.

How do I delete just this update? I'm having the same problem and would like to delete it as suggested. I selected the update in Manage Storage - Latest Backup 25/03/2016 but a message came up checking that I wanted to delete all backups. This doesn't sound right. Is it possible to delete just the system update that has been downloaded?

That's what's confusing me. It's actually a Backup dated 25/03/2016. There's no mention of a recent Update anywhere in my Manage Storage, even though the phone is telling me 9.3 has been downloaded, and is asking me to install it.

Think my best bet might be to leave it for a while, ignore the regular requests to install the update and hope Apple get is sorted soon?

Summarizing for those who read the end of the thread first (sometimes a good thing), and to see if I have it straight:

  • Apple released an iOS update v9.3 for all eligible devices. It was subsequently discovered that some of the older of these devices had problems with the update, and Apple removed it.
  • While the update was available, some affected devices had already downloaded it. To prevent it from being installed, Apple's quick fix was to return the error "iOS 9.3 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet" during the verification step of the install process. Kinda lame, but effective.
  • Apple also updated the official "current version" of iOS for affected devices to v9.2.1. If you click "Check for Update" in iTunes for an affected device, you will get the message "This version of the <device> software (9.2.1) is the current version."
  • To get rid of the now useless update file on your device, go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage > Manage Storage, select the iOS 9.3 Update item, and tap "Delete this update".

I had the same "trouble" but was clicking on the wrong section to find the IOS 9.3 update on my iPad

The path to the section is ....

Settings ---> General ---> Storage & iCloud Usage >

On my iPad the top Section is Labelled "Storage" this is the right one

"Open" Manage Storage > in this section

and you should see the IOS 9.3 update listed if it is downloaded on your device

you can then open it and delete it.

If you opened the Manage Storage> item in the section labelled ICLOUD you get the listing of device backup files, which you don't want to delete.

After I deleted the IOS 9.3 download I restarted my iPad. Then went into Settings ---> General ---> Software Update and it went back to Software is up to date status (IOS 9.2.1). So I should be ready for the "fixed" version of IOS 9.3 when it is released according to other posts in this string.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the clarification! Not on this board very often, so perhaps I'm missing it, but there does not appear to be a way to edit a post you've made? If there were, I would change the last bullet in my summary per your information:

To get rid of the now useless update file on your device, go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage. There are two sections here: "Storage" and "iCloud". In the first section ("Storage"), tap Manage Storage, select the iOS 9.3 Update item, and tap "Delete this update".

So I've done this, deleted the faulty update, and restarted my iPad as somebody else mentioned, now I've got the iOS 9.2.1 You're software is up to date. Even though it's supposed to be 9.3, by the looks of things, and I've still got the "1" on the software update bit, suggesting there's something to update. Am I in the right place to sort this out or have I gone wrong somewhere??
