For those having problems with the iOS 9.3 update please read...

So many people are having problems with the update to iOS 9.3 and the questions are flooding the iOS support forums now. I am hoping that by consolidating some of the information available, it will help some of you without starting hundreds of new threads all asking about the same things.

Please do not shoot the messenger if you already know all of this. I am just trying to help by providing some information To the community. Theses problems are well known, Apple has acknowledged them and is reportedly working on a fix that should be out soon.

If nothing suggested works for you right now, you will just have to be patient (remember that "please don't shoot the messenger" thing from above ) and wait until Apple issues the fixed software update.

That's great that Apple is "working on it", but in the meantime our devices are worthless other than for game. Email links are a VERY big deal for those of us on the road.

That being said, do you know of a way to revert back to the pre 9.0s1 software?

Thanks for taking the time to post those links. It is disappointing that Apple doesn't have these on their website.

Apple today released iOS 9.3.1 to the public, marking the first update to iOS 9 since iOS 9.3 launched on March 21. iOS 9.3.1 comes just over a week after the launch of iOS 9.3 and likely brings a fix for a significant web link crashing issue that has been affecting many iOS users. Today's iOS 9.3.1 release is available as an over-the-air update for all iOS 9 users and it can also be downloaded through iTunes. iOS 9.2.1 is the seventh update to iOS 9, following iOS 9.0.1, iOS 9.0.2, iOS 9.1, iOS 9.2, iOS 9.2.1, and iOS 9.3.

Shortly after iOS 9.3 was released, a number of iPhone and iPad users found Safari, Mail, Messages, Notes, Chrome and some other pre-installed and third-party apps would crash or freeze after tapping or long pressing on a web link. While most users affected were on iOS 9.3, some customers on earlier versions of iOS also complained of crashing problems.

The exact underlying cause of the problem has not been discovered, but there is speculation that it is related to Universal Links and the Shared Web Credentials daemon, which allows apps and websites to share login credentials. No quick fix has been available, but shortly after the bug was publicized, Apple said it was working on a fix and has made good on that promise in the iOS 9.3.1 update.

I am having the same issues with my iPhone 6 Plus. I had booking.com installed, removed it & problem still exists. I have tried resetting my phone & again problem remains. I installed chrome but the hyperlinks still do not work either but at least it allowed me to reply here. As far as I can tell there is no way to remove the update. If possible, i would appreciate a respohse. Has Apple fixed this yet or is there anything else that will work. Thank you everyone for the excellent posts & suggestions. Very frustrating but working with everyone here has helped bc I found out what happened (although I thought this was the problem bc other updates caused issues as well).

I just looked at a BUNCH of reporting - seems MacRumors got the scoop!

One article that gives me pause about analytics and statistics = iOS 9.3 Apple's 'most stable new release in years,' app analytics firm finds

it seems that their metric is only "crash rate" - without delving too deep, my interpretation is that "crash" a device is not a meter of any of the issues in 9.3 = "activation" and "links" + "your mileage may vary" random ones

According to the reports - this update addresses the "Universal Links" issue only = Safari & emails, etc.

That was the Safari links issue with 9.2.1 was it not? If it were me, I would update. However, I understand your reluctance. This has been a real PITA for so many.

Demo... Thank you very much for your help, I took the chance and did the 9.3.1 update and up to now, i can click on links within safari and certain sites. Yet to try the email hyperlinks.

Just reporting: IPhone 6 with 9.3, could not link from messages. Installed 9.3.1 and problem fixed.
