For those having problems with the iOS 9.3 update please read...

So many people are having problems with the update to iOS 9.3 and the questions are flooding the iOS support forums now. I am hoping that by consolidating some of the information available, it will help some of you without starting hundreds of new threads all asking about the same things.

Please do not shoot the messenger if you already know all of this. I am just trying to help by providing some information To the community. Theses problems are well known, Apple has acknowledged them and is reportedly working on a fix that should be out soon.

Here are some tech site articles that explain the problems if any of you are interested in reading them. They are in no particular order other than what my most recent Google search turned up for me.

Apple posted these support articles a couple of days ago and they might help some of you as well

If you can't activate your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch after installing iOS 9.3 - Apple Support

If you can’t activate your iPad 2 (GSM model) after you update to iOS 9.3 - Apple Support

If nothing suggested works for you right now, you will just have to be patient (remember that "please don't shoot the messenger" thing from above ) and wait until Apple issues the fixed software update.

That's great that Apple is "working on it", but in the meantime our devices are worthless other than for game. Email links are a VERY big deal for those of us on the road.

That being said, do you know of a way to revert back to the pre 9.0s1 software?

Thanks for taking the time to post those links. It is disappointing that Apple doesn't have these on their website.

For those interested, the OSXDaily article that Demo, myself, and others have posted offers, as one option, to downgrade to 9.2.1 and gives specific instructions. However, some users who attempted this today have posted that Apple has quit signing that version so a downgrade is no longer possible. It is standard procedure for Apple to stop signing previous versions after a few days with a new update. I was hoping that in this instance they would wait longer due the issues reported here. So my recommendation to those considering this is to not try it.

If * I * ran the circus, I would have the "business process" automated to where after " X " amount of time, a reminder email would zot to the person responsible for the "signature" removal - probably in some far flung office somewhere not in daily contact with the engineering team involved in this current debacle

- and that person would "Just Do It"

BULL ITS TOTALLY RELATED TO 9.3

No. What part of: "devices that do not have iOs 9.3 are also being affected" did you not understand.

If they don't have iOS 9.3, but are still affected it can't be completely related to iOS 9.3. Since iOS 9.3 is not a factor in these cases.

It's possible it's more patently visible with iOS 9.3, but it's not entirely related to it if devices without it are also being affected.

I had the iPad 2 activation issue since last week. I followed these instructions:

If you can’t activate your iPad 2 (GSM model) after you update to iOS 9.3 - Apple Support

Had to do the iTunes update procedure three times (all successfull), only after that iPad asked for SIM PIN code which it did not before. I have not used PIN or 3G anyways in years, so obviously I did not remember the PIN code for it and just removed the SIM from the device.

After that, the activation went A-OK.

Just thinking since Apple clearly says in the subject that it's the "GSM model", could they not include the info that the SIM in fact caused the problem. Would have saved me lot of time and effort working on this issue, hope this helps someone else.

Demo,

Thanks for the useful information. I also found this link to add:

Similar to some of your links, this article states that APPLE HAS PULLED BACK the 9.3 update for some older devices. What’s really interesting and equally concerning, is that Apple’s only acknowledgement of this seems to have been made by an Apple Spokesperson only through certain “press” channels but it is nowhere officially posted on Apple’s website. If anyone can find an official Apple statement reporting the pull back, please post a link to this feed. Apple’s only acknowledgment about the iOS 9.3 problem seems be on what to do “If you can‘t activate your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch after installing iOS 9.3”. This may be helpful if you were able to install 9.3 but could continue the activation when signing into iCloud.

Unfortunately for me and many other, I kept spinning my wheels after they had pulled the update when I kept reaching the notification that said, “Unable to Verify Update” - “iOS 9.3 failed verification because you are no longer connected to the internet”, “Try Again”. This of course wasn’t true because I was connected to the internet but I had no way of knowing the “pull back” had existed until I did a search and came across the above mentioned article.

For the record, I was able to successfully install iOS 9.3 on my iPhone 5 and iPad 2 shortly after the initial release on March 24. Then on March 25, I came across the “Unable to Verify Update” notification when I was trying to install it on my child’s new iPod Touch and iPad Mini. By then, the iOS 9.3 update notification had already been pushed to my child’s devises even though it wouldn't load. I even wasted time trying to force the update through iTunes, yet iTune’s kept saying “your iPod/iPad is up to date' with 9.2.1 even though both devices keep showing an update notification. Later on March 25, I checked my spouse’s iPad 2; since iOS 9.3 had not been pushed to this iPad, I checked for a “Software Update” through “Settings” and it came back saying “iOS 9.2.1 – Your Software is up to date”. With one iPad 2 showing iOS 9.3 as up-to-date and the other iPad 2 showing iOS 9.2.1 as up-to-date, this confirmed to me that Apple did indeed pull the iOS release. It just would have been more helpful had Apple acknowledged this from the start and defined which devices are affected – what a waste of time. What will be next?

I'm really sorry if this is off topic I just cant find this question or answer anywhere and im no good with phones! If you have answers id like to know! Because its really starting to worry me :/
