OS X 10.11.4 freezing and/or crashing while using Safari

Hi everyone!

Have others experienced freezing and sometimes crashing of Mac OS X 10.11.4 while using Safari? Is this a known issue or is it just me?

The way this manifests itself is that scrolling and mouse movements suddenly start to get slow and jerky. Then, within 30 seconds to a minute, the keyboard stops working and mouse clicks no longer have an effect, but the mouse cursor will still move. Then it either stays that way indefinitely or the system crashes. The only recourse is to force a reboot using the power button.

This happens to me every other day, but I cannot reproduce it on demand. I believe (but I'm not certain) that the first such crash has occurred before the recent upgrade to 10.11.4.

This is on a

Lynnie, I think that's a misunderstanding. You didn't get an email from me. I replied to Grimsy who suggested the beta as a solution because it had worked for him. You are getting all posts on this thread as an email automatically regardless of whether or not they were addressed to you.

But as I said, Grimsy's post was deleted. I don't know who deleted it or why it was deleted, but I can no longer find it.

Same system:

Mac OS X 10.11.4

Safari 9.1 (11601.5.17.1)

same issue. Followed all recommendations to no avail. Created new user and same problem appeared there. I also have some evidence of a similar problem with Firefox or Chrome.

In my case everything is frozen but the mouse cursor remains mobile. And even though it appears that the mouse does nothing, I can click on an active app on the Dock, save the documents with Command-S and quit the app with Command-Q. You see nothing on screen, but when you restart the computer, you notice that the document has been saved and the app does not restart. This has saved my life, while we wait for a solution.

Another 'me too' to this thread. Very similar to broozar's situation (3 complete freezes with reboots required in a week). MacBook Pro, Early 2015, 10.11.4. Complete freezing: can't use mouse or trackpad, can't save/quit apps. I too use my Macbook for work, and though I save often I am frankly a little frightened of losing something important. I also use Chrome as my primary browser (last freeze/reboot happened with Safari unopened). The last freeze also happened when trying to load Twitter's website. Not sure if it was because there was a lot of graphic/video content there. But otherwise, have not been able to recreate the problem with any specific causes.

One of the complications of this problems is that, as you say, it's hard to reproduce. That's why I'm putting off taking my machine to the Genius Bar - if they can't figure out the issue while you're there, they'll want to keep the machine until they can reproduce the problem. I use my Mac all day every day, and certainly can't go without it for 3 days (or however long it takes). And even though I back up frequently, I am insecure about losing things that I might need to dig up for clients. I wish someone from Apple would acknowledge the problem so at least the "Geniuses" would have some kind of awareness of where to look.

I Cannot begin to tell you how annoyed and angry I am with all these problems.

Same problem here. This is the tip of the iceberg. I've gone from mavericks having problems, to Yosemite having problems, now el Capitan problems.

ALl all in the space of a few days!!

IVe ice reinstalled the system about 5 times in the last few days, formatted my SSD at least 3 times, done all the resetting of pram, smc, all that nonsense, it's just a constant struggle with apple products these days.

SO I finally go to El Capitan, thinking it's been out for so long now surely it's stable - wrong.

MY problem now is -

as soon as I open safari, it quits itself after about 4 seconds. Then the spinning wheel pops up. ive restarted, ran disk utility, reset pram and smc, -

latest update now is this - I restarted and now it wants to install the OS again. I cant even get back to the Desktop os!!!

My solution to be honest for me anyway is to go back to Mavericks. I can't trust El crapitan.
