My apps won't download or update on App Store, what to do?

Hey!

My App Store has not updated any apps automatically for a few weeks, even though I have the "update automatically" setting on. (And no, those updates do not require Wi-Fi to update, my 4G mobile data should've been fine.) Now it has gotten to the point where I can't update any apps even manually. I click the "update" icon and the progress circle shows up but doesn't start increasing. It just stays stuck. How can I fix this?

I'm also unable to download/install any new apps. This happens with all of the apps I've tried to install so it is not app specific issue. I have rebooted my phone, checked my App Store and internet settings, logged out and logged in on my Apple ID. I have also reset my network settings. I have tried downloading with both Wi-Fi and mobile data with apps that do not require Wi-Fi to intall. All multiple times, and over the time period of few days. I don't have any restrictions on.

When I click the "install" button, it just shows the progress circle without the middle square and it stays stuck with no progress. Sometimes the app shows as a white icon on my home screen but not everytime. If it does, I can not directly delete it but I can stop the "installing" on App Store which makes the white icon go away eventually. I have one app that survived installing past the white icon stage but got stuck on "waiting". I may click it but nothing happens.

I have iPhone 6, and 9.3.1 software.

I am really desperate for an answer, please.

I have THE solution. No need for calling tech support or running to the nearest Apple Store.

Launch: Settings--> General--> Restrictions--> Toggle "Enable Restrictions"--> scroll down to Installing Apps and Deleting Apps--> If toggle switches are off, toggle them on. --> Double click home button and swipe UP to close settings. --> Re-open Settings--> Scroll to iTunes and App Store--> Tap Apple ID--> Log out--> Power Cycle iPhone. Once phone is powered back on, go to Settings--> ITunes and App Store--> Apple ID--> Re-enter your log in credentials--> Back arrow--> General--> Restrictions--> Scroll down to Installing Apps and Deleting Apps--> Toggle switches back to "off"--> Close Settings App--> Open App Store and your phone will be back to normal downloading!

You do it through the App Store on the iOS device:

App Store - Apple

There is an Update tab at the bottom of the App Store screen, and you can download old apps by tapping on your name/photo at the top of the screen, and then follow the prompts to find your purchased apps that are not yet downloaded.

You can also set up Automatic Downloads and Automatic Updates under Settings>iTunes & App Store.

just to let you guys know the method i just tried only last couple hours. But then the problem came back again. Now i still cant download/update apps over my wifi. I do believe this is something to do with my fiber optic router. I use ZTE F609. I did try using my other wifi (ADSL router) and app store work fine. I use 3G/LTE everything also fine. It got to be the router ZTE F609. i really dont know what setting i should change. I wish somebody can help me.

I had an issue with updating my apps due to the fact that my payment bounced for the storage I purchase monthly from Apple. I ended up creating a new Apple ID and skipping payment information altogether on setup (the option to skip entering payment info is small and seems to be meant to be overlooked). Finally, I uninstalled all of the apps that were downloaded and all the stock apps that update periodically and reinstalled them under my new Apple ID account.

This is only going to cause you issues down the road. Simply update your payment method and let Apple charge you for the services or apps you purchased.

I found today that there can be another background related to update/install apps. My iPhone and iPad was not able to update some applications (messenger and linkedin), but the rest of apps worked.

I tried remove non-working apps and install them again, but I was not able to install them after removing.

I tried to sign-out/in, soft reset etc.

Then I tried to install new application which was never installed on my devices and store asked me for verification of payment method. After verification all updates on all devices started working.

This is going to sound a bit unorthodox, but as soon as I deleted my FACEBOOK app, everything started downloading and updating!!! My Facebook app has been messed up for awhile... not updating. Super annoying! I even got a new phone! Upgraded to iPhone 7 Plus. Still messed up Facebook app. I use an app called Friendly to get on Facebook now.

Hope this works for y'all, too! ❤

Is the device owned by your school or employer?

If not, and you have already reset the device, then I would suggest you back it up and then erase it so you can set it up as a new device. The first time around, do not set it up from the Backup, just get it initially set up so you can look at the Settings to see if Restrictions is accessible. If it is, then erase again and restore from the backup to see if the issue remains fixed.

Your issue is not related to this thread. Next time, make sure you are posting your question in a relevant thread, or, you can submit your own question.

You cannot delete the App Store app, so here are the things you need to check:

1. Swipe two fingers down the middle of the screen, and in the Spotlight Search bar, type in App to see if the App Store is listed. If you see it listed, then make sure it wasn't accidentally moved into a folder (the folder name will display on the list). If it is in a folder, then tap on the folder name, then when the folder contents is displayed, move the App Store app out of the folder.

2. See if it has been restricted: Go to Settings>General>Restrictions, and make sure that you don't have the "Allow" option turned off for the three App options at the bottom of the "Allow" list. If they are off, turn them on, and the App icon will show up again. Check all of the Home screens, if necessary.

3. If you are still having problems locating it, then reset your Home Screen by going to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout. This will not delete any of your apps, but it will rearrange the icons so that the Apple core apps are on the first Home screen.

Best of luck,

GB
