iPad Pro 9.7 Random Restart

Normally wouldn't think much of this but, I have a 2 day old iPad Pro 9.7 128GB that has restart on me twice so far. In the middle of using it, it will cut to the Apple logo on the black background for a minute before returning to the passcode screen. Oddly enough, it will accept Touch ID in place of a passcode, something it doesn't usually do when it loses power. Any idea on the cause or how to figure it out? I chatted with the tech support but they only help they could provide was to do a restore. I just performed it, but my concern is that I installed an app or enabled something causing the iPad to crash and it'll simply continue to do that due to the bad app.

My random restarts stopped with 10.2 but this ipad has multiple problems. The only things the techs can tell you to do is to factory reset. The problems keep changing. One time it was freezing and now pages in Safari turn white. Apple won't admit that these ipads are defective. They will do nothing except factory resets. How many times do you need to reset the iPad to get it to work for awhile until Apple admits there is a problem..They won't admit any of their products are defective.

Out of habit today I clicked on a link in an email I got, and Safari opened by default. I went to minimize it to then use Chrome and my iPad crashed. At least for me using Chrome has basically stopped my iPad from crashing. Everytime it crashes now it seems to be because I was just using Safari and minimizing it or app switching from it.

IMHO, this issue will never be addressed in any update, without Apple officially recognising the bug.

A similar thing happens with Apple Mail on any OS X version after Mountain Lion. There is a printing bug in it, and every version upgrade/update I file a bug report, but to no avail. It's like shouting into the void.

Class action law suit could be a means to get official recognition of the problem. So we will know eventually if it is hardware or software related at the least.

My iPad pro rebooted a lot at a recent conference. This will kill Apple customer loyality as the bug should be fixed by now. Having an expensice pro version do this is unacceptable. My students are having the same issue. Apple will need to provide refunds on all iPad Pros if they do not fix this. This will not end well for Apple if they keep ignoring customers. They need to aknowledge they have a problem and tell people what they plan to do.

Microsoft will sell way more Surface 4s once the world figures out the iPad Pro is a dud.

You are right Ashley. The update did nothing for our problem. It seems that it happens for me when I hit the home button to leave Safari. Because the home button seems to trigger it it may also be a hardware problem. I hope not. The only other change I have seen is that the usage and standby times on the battery page disappear. All tech support says is that the engineers are working on it. It has been over 2 months and no word from Apple. I consider my iPad defective out of the box.

I teach with an iPad every day and help support a school iPad program with 750 devices. I have owned an iPad 2, iPad 3 and iPad Air 2. This excludes the other 4 iPads I bought for my family members.

My 9.7 Pro is a work device and includes an Apple Pencil ($165) and Apple Keyboard ($229) This is an expensive 128 GB device with all the extras.

I transferred all my data and apps to the new iPad recently. My iPad Air 2 is fantastic and never gives a days problem.

I encouraged other teaching staff to buy the iPad Pro 9.7, so this looks really bad. I now need to tell them not to buy one and consider a Surface Pro 4.

My wife has a Surface Pro 4 from work and an iPad Air 2

So yes, I think Apple customers can be really angry by now. This bug is not new and should be fixed by now.

You try teach a class with your device rebooting all the time. It is a joke. None of my Windows computers have done this so often.

I have lost critical data using this device whilst marking. The iPad Pro is not reliable enough to be used in industry.

I will most likely transfer my data back to my iPad Air 2 (128 GB Cellular) and ask Apple if they are going to refund the Pencil, Keyboard and iPad Pro.

Hopefully they will either fix the bug or make a public announcement about the issue.
