Accused of making modifications....

MY iphone 6 mysteriously quit working in my hands about a month ago. I tried to get support from Apple on it. They thought ut was the battery. I sent it in and got an email telling me I made unauthorized modifications to the phone. I did NOT make any modifications and have been the only owner of the phone. i have contacted Apple support multiple times and no one will tell me what they think I did. How can I get the information?

i take offense to being called a liar, a cheat and given the run around when the only thing I ever did to the phone is put a screen protector on it.

Any suggestions?

Finding an independent repair person would be the same as any other service provider---search online, read reviews, and call up someone and see how they feel to you. There are at least a group of 20 or so great shops that can do this work across the US, more around the world. It is likely something that you'd have to mail out for repair. It would be too spammy for me to give specific recommendations.

Re: Why doesn't Apple fix this. It's just not in their business model, and there's nothing wrong with that. They have only recently begun to offer limited break/fix simple part swaps in stores, and the training and infrastructure needed to bring board repair to the masses wouldn't make sense. It may in fact be cheaper to just build a new board by clicking a few buttons on an already automated manufacturing process than to develop, set up, and test a high throughput automated rework system. Finding and training individuals to do hand rework is fairly specialized, and may not be something amenable to systematic repair of the volume of devices that are affected with board level problems. Who knows.
