Smart keyboard ipad pro lost connection
Hi
Why my smart keyboard sometimes lost connection with ipad pro 9.7". Then after restart the ipad it works again. But its always like that. Is there any problem or how to fix it?

I have had this problem for ages and talked to apple support. They sent me a new one, which has been working perfectly for half a year now. It was probably because I dropped it one too many times.

I have this problem nearly every day and i have to reboot the iPad. very annoying when you are working and have to get emails out. This is not a good product from Apple. It also needs to light up as well. the only reason I stick with it is I don't have to recharge it.
My 12.9 Smart Keyboard is doing the same thing. As it's 18 months old and out of warranty Apple won't exchange it even though I had read online that they were extending the warranty because of known problems. Wasted 40 mile round trip to the nearest Apple Store only to leave feeling the most negative I have about Apple in over 10 years During which I've purchased every iPhone, all but 1 of the iPads, several MacBooks and 3 iMacs including a £2000 5K one. You would hope that a Keyboard costing £160 would last longer than 18 months, that's one of the reasons why I buy from Apple- reliability and customer service. I'm not going to say I'll never buy another Apple product again but I will certainly think long and hard before parting with my cash in future. I think it's safe to say my love affair with Apple and their products is over.
I have this very same issue. I have checked the connectors numerous times. And that is not the issue.
If I go to Settings / Touch ID & Passcode / Toggle off, then back on IPad Unlock.
The keyboard will work again.
I do not understand coding or software/hardware design, but it seems like Apple should be able to fix this known issue with a software update.
It is very annoying.
I have the same issue, extremely poor execution with one on Apple's part and immensely annoying.
You purchase an Apple device and Apple accessory, not a third party one and they are no compatible, poor.
Also, I feel that a faulty update did this.
I had the same issue. Actually i tested different apple smart keyboards and the issue persisted what resolved my issue was replacing my iPad with new one. I think it is not a keyboard issue but it is an iPad issue.
This fix worked for me. I had the keyboard attached not working after many reboots. I just went into Touch ID and turned off apple pay and itunes. The keyboard started working right away and then went back in and turned them on. I am typing this reply on the keyboard that wasn't working. Thanks for the work around.
I have a brand new iPad Pro 12.9” 2nd gen and the Smart keyboard.
The same issue occurs several times a day. I do not need to restart my iPad but I have to detach the smartkeyboard and reattach. Sometimes more than one time but then it starts working again.
Very annoying. I also have the 10.5” iPad Pro with Smartkeyboard and it happened only once there during the last 2 months or so.
My Smart Keyboard got wet somehow and now it doesn’t work.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I'm sorry to hear that you are having these issues with your iPad Pro and your Smart Keyboard. Since the Smart Keyboard uses the Smart Connector contacts on the side of your iPad Pro, if you are having issues with intermittent or lost connections, you may want to check the contacts as outlined in the following article:

If your iPad Pro doesn't detect your Smart Keyboard or you see an "Accessory not supported" alert on your iPad Pro, make sure there's no debris or plastic covering on the Smart Connector pins on the keyboard or the Smart Connector on the iPad Pro. Also, try these steps:
- Make sure that your iPad Pro and Smart Keyboard are in the Type position.
- Remove the Smart Keyboard from your iPad Pro.
- Restart your iPad Pro.
- Reconnect the Smart Keyboard.

i already follow as your instruction. i will show the picture below. The only things that worked is when i restart my ipad pro. But its very common like this and very annoying to always restart my ipad pro when i need to use the keyboard. Is there any quick method for reconnecting?

edit: oh one more things that in setting ipad pro at "General" > there is no showing "Hardware Keyboard" when i am in the 'type' position. Even i try to plug my keyboard then attach it again its still didnt show. It will show each time i restart my ipad pro but after a while its gone again (like in hours when ipad pro in sleep mode)

I use with my iPad Pro 9.7 " exactly the same problem with the Smart Keyboard . If I iPad Pro 9.7 " have a while in standby loses the iPad Pro to connect to the Smart Keyboard , and can no longer be the Keyboard until the iPad reboots . After restarting everything works again smoothly . When the keyboard is not in use but then again about 1 hour , it does not go back . The problem also emerges only when the iPad Pro is the Keyboard Dock .
I have also made an attempt . When the iPad Pro 9.7 " , the keyboard does not recognize then I wanted to know if it but then the great keyboard from iPad Pro 12.9 " recognizes . This is no longer even recognized . Only after restarting it goes .
It is installed 9.3.2 iOS . Please Apple fixes the problem !
I tried again to isolate the problem and behold I found the solution .
It is up to Touch ID . Once Touch ID is turned on for iTunes purchases or to unlock the iPad then passes these errors that the keyboard is not recognized after a while .
So Apple fixes the problem with Touch ID .
Oh nice, thanks i will try to turn off touch id and see its work or not ... Is there any website that we can reference to apple to report this issue if thats happen
