i have the same problem, except mine says manchester, i think it might have to do with virgin media. i do have location services active and billing address is correct as well, however the problem persists
Crazy isn't it? That you have to ALLOW the verification even though you know it is an incorrect location!
I live in Melbourne but device location has me in Tasmania. On checking a few blogs it seems the location can be either from the router you are using or the location of the Cell Tower your service provider is using! I checked and turns out my service provider OPTUS uses a tower in the exact location that the verification code came from.
One would think this is not beypond the capacity of Apple to explain given the number of enquiries it has generated. Hope this helps..
It's got nothing to do with the ISP. Apple's system is either broken or badly designed. Evidence:
I get the Middlesborough message on all of my Apple devices, no matter which wifi connection I'm using - that's BT Broadband at home, Super JANET at my university or any other public wifi connection. I'm not connecting through a proxy, so there can be no router related mis-identification going on. Even worse, sometimes Apple are sending the verification code to the device on which I'm actually trying to make the access to an Apple service that requires sign in.
Basically this is just crap from Apple. Increasingly annoying.
And to make matters worse I decided to change my Apple password, just in case there is some hacker in Middlesborough. It was a ridiculously painful process to do on all my devices. Just rubbish. This is serious. Apple's bad design is discouraging people from changing their passwords. That is really bad.
THANK YOU LACAllen...I travel all over the world and this continually was happening to me and each time I thought it was a potential security threat, so I changed my password. I still may do so, as it is a good habit to get in to; however, when I started asking the hosts who their internet service is with, sure enough, it's the same location my devices want to access. Thank you for taking the time to post such a short, concise, and accurate response. VERY HELPFUL!
Your location is reported by your ISP, so if their server you are linking through is elsewhere, that is the location reported. As long as you were signing in at the time, it isn't a problem.
Maybe its your gps board, maybe is a hardware issue, i would try something like, login in some device else and check the location, if its ok, we know its your device. If its not maybe your Apple ID account (i don't think so it can be this)
Apple ID is your credentials on various Apple services. Apple ID is not showing you anything
What device?
What OS version?
Take a screenshot of the "incorrect location" - the entire display - and post it in a reply here
He said the *notification* is showing him, not the apple ID.
I live in Midhurst, West Sussex. My notification is showing me "Middlesborough, England" which is really far away; about 4 hours drive. England is small, so that's pretty much half the country away.
Surely a screenshot is not necessary.
OK.
I sign WITH my Apple ID for various services all the time. Only when I sign in from a "new" device to a given service for the first time do I receive a notification, and it does not appear to have anything about 'location' in it... example:
Apple ID has only one place to set one's location - during the process when creating one
iTunes, on the other hand, allows one to change "billing address" - in effect, the location of the "Store" in which one shops.
In your case, you may need to Change your iTunes Store country or region - Apple Support
When making purchases (downloading anything), one would receive a notification which may indeed contain billing address info.
I cannot test to show examples. (I am old fashioned and do not buy my music via iTunes but on CDs & vinyl - and don't use iPhone or iPad so I need no apps. My Mac is so old that Mac App Store is not supported in the OS X)
Are you stating about when ever you sign in apple id a notification comes on mail that this apple id has been logged in & country is sometimes different ?
The notification appears on the Mac and on my iPhone. It contains a map and a location. It asks me if I want to allow the sign in. This is when signing into a new browser etc. I dont know if I get an email but thats not what I'm referring to. I have 2-step verification enabled.
The country is not different, but the location is very far away.
