I removed the keyboard and noticed that the connecting edge was not straight, and the portion with the pins was slightly lower than the lower than the rest of the edge. Just flexed it a smidge to raise the pins and problem is solved!

I bought an iPad Pro 9.7 in April with Smart Keyboard. About 2 months ago, the keyboard stopped working suddenly. A hard reboot fixed the problem. This cycle repeated itself every 2 or 3 days. I finally broke down and went to the Genius Bar. They replaced my keyboard yesterday. Then 10 minutes ago, my new keyboard stopped working. Only a hard reboot got it going again. So...... Now I’m trying to figure out what the next step is.

I just recieved the Logitech keyboard today. It is heavier And a bit more like a laptop feel to it..... BUT WOW!! It‘s incredible to be able to type a sentence and not have the keyboard stop working midstream!! I kept both malfunctioning APPLE keyboards in my desk. I remain hopeful that maybe APPLE admits to a problem and maybe I get a refund or a credit towards soemthing someday. Bit it feels good to own a non-apple product for once. And I think that feeling is going to get better and easier with every other non-apple purchase going forward.

Hi,

I have the similar problem with my smart keyboard and iPad Pro, especially since I updated to iOS 12.

I also get the Accessory Not Supported popup, but just a few times. But what I do get is the "device connected sound", same sound as when you connect your lightning cable. But the thing is, nothing is connecting or disconnecting when the sound is heard. So I'm guessing it is the keyboard disconnecting? Very strange the first times I heard it...

I figured out today that the keyboard works if I have the lightning cable connected and charging the iPad. I disconnected it and it worked fine until around 85-90% battery power, then the "device disconnected" sound was heard again... very annoying!

Anyone else experiencing this?

There is clearly a software issue with is10 and the keyboard working. Too many people with the same complaint. The only option being turning off and on, disconnecting and reconnecting. I expect better from apple products than having to reboot every few hours to accommodate a technical issue. I also dislike being made to feel that my care of the keyboard or ipad is at fault, when it is not. Apple - what are you doing about this?

Only recently have I been having the following issues with my iPad Pro and Logitech keyboard when the iPad is on battery power, i.e., not charging:

  • The Home key (rectangle with rounded corners) will work initially, but eventually it will be ignored. I can press it once to wake up the device, but subsequent key presses will be ignored.
  • This also happens with the LOCK key—it works initially but then is ignored after waking up the device
  • Around this time I will usually find that I can not CMD+TAB to switch apps as well.
  • The workaround I have to use is to disconnect my iPad from the keyboard momentarily. When I reconnect them the keyboard will fully function again—but it won’t be too long before I run into the above situation again. It’s as if the iPad loses connectivity to these particular keys, although I can still use the keyboard to type regularly. It’s just these “special” keys that are ignored.

Note that none of this happens when the iPad is plugged in and charging. It seems there is some sort of power-saving mode the iPad enters when unplugged that results in various keys being ignored after some interval.

Bin it and buy an cheap generic copy.

The covers do not last and unless you bought it recently Apple will not stand by the product.

I went to the Apple shop and they had nothing for my early gen iPad pro. The new 12.9 inch iPads have a very expensive key-board/stand. The iPads are also eye wateringly expensive with completely unnecessary capability including LIDAR and a fast chip. Who the F takes a picture with your laptop or iPad? And only a small percentage of grown ups play games. The speed is "cool" but an iPad is not a laptop replacement as it does not support multiscreen, the mouse/track pad is really not up to scratch, useful Apps are cut down and there is no real file operating system. Files comes close, but Apps still have their own file directories.. There are entry level spec iPads which is all you need for real day to business use, but the larger screen brings the above overheads and stupid cost. Either stick to being a cheaper practical tablet or create a touch screen full OS laptop/device. With the pen it would be a winner.

Anyway back to key board, it has failed. And Apple has walked away. Suck it up and buy a cheap copy on Amazon.
