iPad Pro is intermittently non reponsive to the IPad Pro Smart Keyboard.
Tyopical occurs when attempting to enter text in address field of the mail app
when the mail app has been opened by Safari to mail a link etc
I removed the keyboard and noticed that the connecting edge was not straight, and the portion with the pins was slightly lower than the lower than the rest of the edge. Just flexed it a smidge to raise the pins and problem is solved!
Phew even shorter, and another power off and back on to get the keyboard working....

My Smart Keyboard was out of warranty, but Apple replaced it anyway. Go to the Genius Bar.
I got mine replaced by Apple even out of warranty. It still becomes unresponsive at times. I fix it by sleeping the iPad and the waking it up. Then it works again.
I simply rock the iPad forward and backward until the virtual keyboard disappears.
I had the same problem. I am now on my third keyboard (#3 replaced last week).Apple was kind enough to replace both at no charge.

Resstarting it always helps, but I have to do it all the time and never needed to. Apple please fix this.

I tried the slight incline by placing a book under the keyboard and its working. Its difficult to use it that way though.

I had the same problem. I fixed it by simply resetting my iPad settings.
Go to settings and delete any Bluetooth keyboard that is paired to the iPad, and then voila! Your smart keyboard will start working again.

I also have this issue and sad to say the resolution that worked was to put the keyboard on a slant. I've had this keyboard for a year now and didn't start getting this error message until a few months ago after I updated my ios. It might be wear and tear but I highly doubt it. Someone should probably take a look at this soon.
iOS 11.0.1, Just had it fail again randomly while switching apps. The left swipe and type in the search box worked. I tried disconnecting and re-connecting and that did not. I have 2 Pros both with keyboards and it happens on both so i doubt its the pogo pins. It does seem to be software as if you do end up not being able to type in apps, then you can in the seach bar, then it works again, how can that be hardware.
