iPhone 7 Plus Phone Call Sound Quality

So we just got 2 new iPhone 7 Plus' and I am noticing that the incoming call audio quality on both sounds strange. I have the Apple leather case on the phone and incoming audio sounds distant. Like it is coming from behind the phone or something. It almost sounds like the phone is on speaker phone but it isn't. Turning the volume down helps a bit but it seems off. Previous I had an iPhone 6 so I don't know how this compares to the 6 Plus.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

I found the solution: The phone was still wrapped up in the original plastic it came in, and that plastic was making the phone sound echo in a strange way. Hope it helps you too! The sound difference without that plastic wrap is massive.

I don't see how Itunes has anything to do with it when I don't backup with Itunes. Apple support asked me to do a clean instal of IOS and the muffled sound was still there. Apple are replacing my 7 Plus and they actually told me during a call an hour ago that the phone is faulty so they're sending me a new phone. This must apply to all Iphone 7 and 7 P's with this call sound issue. I'd speak to Apple Support if I were you and request it's rectified under the 12 month warranty because it's never worked as it's designed to. I actually phoned them using my 7P and they couldn't hear me properly which proved my point, eventually they had to phone my home number...

AppleCare said they would set me up with a completely new phone for pick up at the store. Instead they gave me another one in the plain white box. I just called Sprint and cancelled the purchase since it's still within the 14 day return cutoff. It's a shame because I really liked the phone but it is useless to me for business if I can only be understood with difficulty.

Received my replacement 7Plus today from Apple and call quality is fine now. Not bad service posted original 7P to Apple Tuesday and replacement phone arrived fully working Friday and registered to me in my Apple Account. I don't know why people are getting hung up about replacement phones arriving in a white box the same way it was sent. As you only sent the phone and nothing else in the white box Apple provided for you to return it in what's wrong with receiving a replacement phone the same way.

If either of the plain box replacements I received in the store (not by mail) resolved the problem, I personally would have no issue with the type of box it came in. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time on my return policy to see if a third attempt would work. Even though the phone has not been out long, perhaps the 2 replacements were refurbished from returns from early adopters who had to replace them. ? Maybe a new box item would have resolved it? . I'm hoping Apple will find a solution so I can try again. The phone really was what I was waiting for - minus the call difficulty.

As soon as my replacement arrived I checked how many times it's been charged using the free Coconut Battery App and it read 1 for load cycles because I charged it on arrival, telling me it was a new phone unless Apple had reset the charge count who knows. The faulty phone had a load cycle count of around 60 odd. My advice to anyone receiving a replacement Iphone is to check it with Coconut Battery. To do this the App runs on your PC and the Iphone is connected using the supplied USB cable, the App then displays battery condition in %, battery charge %, load cycles and a few other bits of info.

I have the same problem. The hollow and muffled sound is worse when other surrounding noises are present.

I have used iPhone 3, 4, and 5 in the past and never experienced such bad sound quality.

Called AT&T and they changed my iPhone7 plus phone setting to "Data", not "Voice and Data", however, the sound quality remains the same. I really hope Apple comes up with a software update soon.

i have the same problem with iphone 7 plus, when i am on the phone the voice is muffled and distant, not clear. Yesterday i went to the Apple store and replaced my phone but still the same problem. My only observation was when i got a replacement phone it was ios 10.0.3 and made one call from the store which was fine, very clear. After that i updated to ios 10.1.1 and now the call voice quality is the same, muffled and not clear.

I did another test, i tested 2 different iphone 7 plus with different providers and they sound the same. Also tested to call via viber and the call was very clear. So i guess don't go to the store to exchange it, it's not a hardware problem its probably software but for Apple to fix it they have to admit that there is a problem.
