iPhone 7 Plus Phone Call Sound Quality

So we just got 2 new iPhone 7 Plus' and I am noticing that the incoming call audio quality on both sounds strange. I have the Apple leather case on the phone and incoming audio sounds distant. Like it is coming from behind the phone or something. It almost sounds like the phone is on speaker phone but it isn't. Turning the volume down helps a bit but it seems off. Previous I had an iPhone 6 so I don't know how this compares to the 6 Plus.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

I found the solution: The phone was still wrapped up in the original plastic it came in, and that plastic was making the phone sound echo in a strange way. Hope it helps you too! The sound difference without that plastic wrap is massive.

I haven't encountered a company like Apple who blatantly continue to deny knowledge of a fault though it's evident that they seem to be censoring our entries and therefore must be aware. I'm so annoyed with being treated disrespectfully by Apple over this issue that I'm raising it with Watchdog via social media in order to move it to the public domain instead of being restricted to this forum. In addition to my iPhone 7 and 7P I own a MacPro, Ipad, Ipad Pro, Macbook Air and generally found Apple fine but it seems they've changed since the loss of Steve Jobs at the helm, he was a guy who strived for perfection and would never have ignored a situation like this.

I've had my 7+ replaced and the replacement has the same fault as is the case for many others. If you read the entries in this string you'll see that the issue isn't having phones replaced it's Apple refusing to acknowledge the fault exists and rectifying it. The evidence suggests it's software issue hence replacement phones exhibit the same fault.

So frustrated as it seems is everyone. My earlier post was deleted. Now on my replacement phone which is not working. Tried to get another replacement through support and have it mailed. Was told I had to pay full price for new phone until they repaired by current phone. No understanding that it cannot be repaired. So back to Genius Bar for third time to get a replacement as there they can confirm there is a problem that cannot be repaired. I wish I could get my 6 back but a contract phone.

Update: I now have a perfectly functioning iPhone 7 Plus 128gb. Went to U.S. Cellular to activate the replacement I was given yesterday at my local Apple Store. I've tested a couple calls with family members that witnessed the poor call quality from my old iPhone 7 Plus and now things are continuously crystal clear and strong, whether holding the phone to my ear or on speakerphone. Callers sound clearer to me as well. I don't understand why my replacement works and everyone else's do not...........

Apple have just called me back. I have successfully completed all the self diagnostic steps without a solution. They attempted to book an appointment at a local 'genius' bar to have them check the hardware. Unfortunately all the 'geni' (is that the right plural for genius?) at the nearest shop in Cambridge are fully booked for the next 7 days so Apple Support are unable help at this time as their booking system is only for the next week!

A shocking response from Apple support (although all the call centre staff are always very polite and try to be helpful).

The only benefit I got from having my 7+ replaced was it came with no charge cycles recorded where the phone it replaced had 70+ recorded. The sound quality was still terrible and Apple heard the poor call quality during a call and had to call me back on the house phone in order to hear me properly. In my opinion contacting Apple is an absolute waste of time and if they replace a phone they send it in a plain box with labels attached identifying new serial number and EMEI but they don't send a set of sticky labels for you to update the original box so you end up with a phone that doesn't match the original box which makes selling more difficult. Apple are so awkward and make everything so difficult, when they decide to replace a phone why can't they print two sets of labels one set for the return box and one to update the original box. Am I expecting to much???
