iPhone 7 gps and cell dropping

So, had my new phone for about 4 hours now and have had both GPS and cell service drop at the same time at least 8 times- typically only for about 2 minutes but as I was traveling and using navigation it was very difficult. Anyone else had this problem?

I Would return the iPhone 7 for refund and no waste my time. If product doesn't work out of the box as it's should means faulty so no excuse here. To me sounds like hardware issues plus software that is not capable to correct this issues. all media states that iPhone 7 A1778 that is fitted with intel chip has poorer signal, this type represents half of us versions plus whole Europe.

Sad to report that my LTE problem has returned with the IPhone 7. When I first updated to the beta 3 version of iOS 10 I had no dropped service for a couple of weeks. Now as I sit next to my wife in a restaurant with her 6s side by side with my 7, I am at 3G while she is at LTE. I am perplexed why the software update fixed the issue at first and now it falls back to the same old issue. Hope a permanent fix comes soon.

toninog3,

I'm curious how you're measuring the signal strength on your two phones.

Since updating to 10.0.3 I've had no problems. 10.1 also works fine. I've had less opportunity to navigate in the past 2 weeks, butnot noticed any loss of signal or or dropping GPS since these updates.

I suspect these updates fixed the vast majority of problems--otherwise tech sites would likely have more stories about problems post-update. Even this thread has a relatively small number of people who continue to report problems. If you have 10.1 and still have problems, I suggest you call Apple and let them know. Otherwise how will they be able to investigate remaining problems?

HI, measure it's easy , just you need to have two phones running same iOS one 7 and another 6/6s or 5s both with same SIM cards and you will see how iPhone 7 can not connect to 4G LTE and others connects easily, also iPhone 7 doesn't go into field test mode for some reason, I did test couple of 7's and all the same. I am not talking for signal or gps lost , I am talking about drops in the signal, poor connection, and inability to connect to 4G LTE after connected to 3G. Another example : iPhone 7 freshly restarted and connected to 4G , signal strength 3 bars, all good here. If I make a call and the phone connects to 3G which is normal , all others does it, but after I finished my phone call the iPhone 7 failed to reconnect to 4G until another restart, all other iPhone models does it in less than a minute time, no need restart or airplane mode or anything. Any comments welcome.

Cheers

Ok, that's not really "measuring" the signals, though it sure demonstrates there's a problem. My 7 does indeed go into Field Test mode, just like the 5, 6, and 6s. You might get more information if you can access it. Unfortunately, one of my iPhone isn't activated, and I can see the 7 connects to more, or at least different towers. Your test shows there is a problem between your carrier and the iPhone 7. Unless you have a really low quality signal on your other phones, your test tells nothing about the relative signal strength of iPhone 6 or 6s vs 7.

Another problem with casual comparisons is that the different iPhone models 5/6/6s/7 support different LTE bands. Theoretically the 7 supports the most. And this is without the complexity of all the current iPhone 7 models (I think there are 4). I wonder whether the problems have to do with more modern LTE technology the iPhone 7 supports.

I suspect a resolution can only come through Apple or your carrier. Very frustrating!

I bought an iPhone 7+ 128GB from a Verizon corporate store on Oct-27-2016. I upgraded it to 10.1 and then today to 10.1.1. I immediately set LTE Voice/Data to Data only. I haven't seen any problems with GPS or phone connectivity.

I had bought and returned (from an Apple Store) a Verizon iPhone 7+ 128 on Sep-22-2016. I had immediate problems with connectivity. This was before the cause/temp fix for the problem was known.

So unless you need it, set LTE data to Data only. Upgrade to 10.1.1. It was only a 50MB download.

The LTE-Data Only workaround has been discussed many times. 10.1.1 did't do anything to the radio software, or so we're told. Buying a Verizon iPhone at Apple or Verizon makes no difference. They're the same devices, model numbers and SIMs. Had you kept your original equipment and applied the software update (10.0.3 or 10.1) you'd be right where you are now. Changeout of equipment was almost certainly pointless for most people, at least on Verizon where many problems were happening. Hope your enjoy your new new iPhone.

It is fustrating.. after 10.1.1 update, situation becomes worst. I extracted the logs and passed to Apple engineering for their evaluation. Being an Engineer, I strongly suspect the issue is with hardware not software. Please note it is third update released and even they can't fix the issue. Apple to act proactively and fix the issue as it is not rocket science...

So here's an interesting turn out. I did a Speedtest with my iPhone 7 and my wife's. both preordered minutes from each other. Both on the same plan (unlimited) and account.

Download is relatively the same but my phone (exhibiting these weird issues described here) has 0.1 upload. On a family trip now but I wonder, is this an AT&T issue where my phone is being throttled? Or should I just go to the Apple Store and ask for replacement? Most of the speedtests fail with "upload failed". Phone is pretty much useless unless on wifi. I'm on the latest beta.

There are many factors that go into ul/dl speeds over wireless; you need a handful of tests for data to be useful. Are you both on the same carrier? Do you both have iPhone 7? Which models?

My recommendation is to call Apple Support and talk to engineering first. They will by now have some idea of the problems on AT&T and best solutions. Some people are being asked to send Apple some diagnostic data, while many others have had success with iOS 10.0.3 and 10.1. Apple Store is fine, but you're not likely to speak with a real tech expert there. They can swap your phone but many people report that didn't fix.

No one seems to know the cause of the ongoing problems:

- Some problematic hardware component that is bad in specific iPhone 7 handsets?

- Some iOS or carrier software problem interacting with some iPhone 7 hardware?

- Something wrong with backups restored to new iPhone 7 hardware?

- The vast majority of people never had a problem, yet some problems remain after many were resolved (without hardware exchange)

- Problems in US/Verizon seem to be resolved; remaining issues could be specific to the GSM-LTE iPhone 7
