iPhone 7 gps and cell dropping

So, had my new phone for about 4 hours now and have had both GPS and cell service drop at the same time at least 8 times- typically only for about 2 minutes but as I was traveling and using navigation it was very difficult. Anyone else had this problem?

I am from Malaysia and network provider is Maxis. I have exact same problem As described by others. Just wanted to share that it does not happen only in USA,GB,Australia as discussed in the thread but also in Malaysia. My iPhone 7 plus comes with the intel communication chip which I am wondering if it is the cause of the issue. Anyone with Qualcomm solution have this problem?

Note that Maxis the telco provider does not offer VoLTE, so I do not have option to disable the data and voice like what described many time is this thread. My options listed by Maxis are combined voice and data for 4G,3G and 2G. I lose internet connectivity and GPS several times in an hour particularly using waze and Pokémon go.

iPhone 7 (128gb) AT&T here.

Like i told my wife the other day. Apple has been revolutionary on two fronts with the new phone.

1. They removed the headphone jack from their mobile phone

2. They removed the mobile part from their phone. (works great when stationary and on wifi)

The antenna on this new phone just *****. It's constantly dropping connection and requires toggling airplane mode on and off. I've had the iphone since the 3G but in earnest I didn't start streaming music until the iPhone 4. I have been travelling the same part of i95 in CT for almost 10 years. With the exception of between exits 19-17 in Fairfield where service has always dropped to one bar, I've never dropped a stream during my commute.

The iphone 7 is completely different. It stops(loses connection) no less than 5 times at random spots during my drive. No rhyme or reason. The service indicator dots are constantly pinging between 5 and 1 and everything in between. The last 2 1/2 months have been nothing but frustration filled.

I had the problem in US with Verizon (Qualcomm chip) iPhone 7. It was resolved in iOS 10.1, or maybe one of the minor releases before that. I don't think there are any workarounds other than what's been mentioned. At this point the only real solution is through your wireless company or Apple. In the first months since iPhone 7 launch people were returning iPhones like crazy, which was pointless. Most problems were solved through the newer software (which included updates from carriers for the modem). However, most of those problems seem solved. The percentage of people who still have problems seems small, otherwise the story would have more visibility. Still, very frustrating, I know.

Try getting your carrier or Apple to address your specific problem.

You can check your modem version by going Settings - General - About and look for "Modem Firmware." This probably won't tell you anything, but you could note the number to be aware of any updates going forward.

I realize this is frustrating; I was quite angry until this was fixed for my iPhone 7 with 10.1 (or 10.0.x?).

It's very difficult to compare the iPhone 7 to previous iPhones. The 4 didn't have LTE, so it was connecting to different towers and cells on different channels. I have my iPhone 6 with LTE and it connects to different channels and towers than the iPhone 7! So it's hard to tell which one "has a better antenna" because they may not be connecting to the same signals. In controlled tests the iPhone 7 connects better than an iPhone 6s.

erluk9,

I think Apple pulled your last post, probably because it mentioned b-e-t-a software. Happened to me, too, a while back <eye-roll>.

You mentioned a co-worker exiting a tunnel... was that in DC area? I experienced that yesterday too, going north from Braddock Road into a tunnel. LTE before tunnel, signal drops, after tunnel very slow to connect (perhaps a minute), and then it's only 3G in an LTE area. To add insult to injury I couldn't connect to internet on the 3G signal. After cycling Airplane Mode I was back to a good LTE connection. Grr.

It seems like there are two types of signal problems with iPhones 7, the software issue that was corrected with the first update 10.0.2 and the hardware problem that still here with many people. It's exactly the same poor 4G LTE signal only on iPhones 7 everywhere around the world, which explains everything. Maybe one day Apple will recall those faulty units and replace them with good ones, hopefully soon.

In Europe we have the same issues with the new iphones: No Service, call dropouts, even No SIM installed error, so it is not isolated in the US. In Europe we have the Intel modem ones. I've seen this issue on two carriers: Orange and Vodafone and read about other carriers as well: Telstra, Three UK, EE UK etc.

Same SIM card works in any other phones; once inserted in the iphone 7/7+, the problems start.

This is getting pathetic really! Over 700 EUR for a dead phone!
