iPhone 7 gps and cell dropping

So, had my new phone for about 4 hours now and have had both GPS and cell service drop at the same time at least 8 times- typically only for about 2 minutes but as I was traveling and using navigation it was very difficult. Anyone else had this problem?

So Verizon sent me a new SIM card to try. No change. I wasn't really going to try it until I got on the phone with Apple again and that was their next step too. Apparently its too hard for them to understand that this is happening to more than just my phone, which is really annoying. So now I get to call them back today and tell them that this didn't work either and that maybe its time to move beyond the normal steps they take.

Steps taken thus far:

  • Resetting Network Settings - No Effect
  • Remote Diagnostics with Apple Support - No Issue shown to Apple
  • Verizon Reset (thats what they called it, not really sure what they did on their side) - No Effect
  • Turning off LTE - Mostly positive results
  • Factory reset - No Effect
  • Re-seat SIM Card - No Effect
  • New SIM Card - No Effect

Yes, mine happened while using Waze, but that could be coincidental because I am usually using Waze when I'm driving. It stopped happening after I turned off VoLTE. I agree with the jacobhyman that is not an acceptable solution though as I'd prefer the better quality of VoLTE, so I hope a fix is in the pipeline.

Perhaps those of us who haven't already should report it to Apple support to increase attention to the problem or do they monitor these forums?

ive read in articles via google search that people seem to have gone to apple stores and had phones replaced.

IF someone on here has a corporate email of someone I'll gladly write a letter. But general customer support might not be enough. They're just gonna guide you to do basic troubleshooting. I already reset network settings, wiped phone clean, it's quite annoying.

IF they're not gonna credit me 1 month payment off my device payment plan or fix it asap, i might return and wait a month or so for a new batch of devices to roll out.

I've seen reports that the problem has affected others using older devices since the iOS 10 update, which implies that it may be a software issue and not hardware (even though some were given new phones).

I think the easiest way to report it is to go to the apple support site, select iPhone, scroll to the very bottom and go through and request a support request (although I haven't had time to do this yet).

I am having the same exact issue. iPhone 7 Verizon 128 GB. i get No Service intermittently after using Waze for 15 or so minutes. Today I drove from Austin to Dallas with my wife who has the identical model phone. Every time I had No Service she still had full service. We both have VoLTE enabled. She was not running Waze while I was.

Is this a bug in Waze? Not a developer, and I am a big fan of the app, but that appears to be the common thread here.

I reached out via Twitter @applesupport. Awaiting a reply since it's after hours. Can't even get an appointment at the Genius Bar until Sunday after 6PM in most Apple stores around NYC. The 24 hour apple store in Manhattan has no availability even in the middle of the night. I gotta wait til 1AM Monday morning to go.

It happened to me again tonight. I am now running iOS 10.1 (beta) and was using waze for traffic and hazards on my ride home from work, and after 5 mins it knocked off to "no service." I do not understand where these forum sites are reporting it's stuck after using airplane mode. It happens out of nowhere, but it's happening more with waze, I can't speak for other navi apps as I only use one.

I do use the phone with Map my Ride which is a GPS based app, and the recording doesn't go out with that. I don't understand the coorelation between Waze and iPhone 7. This wasn't happening with iOS 10 on a 6+ in beta and final release.

Running:
Verizon iPhone 7+ w/ iOS 10.1 (problems same on 10.0.1 previously)

VoLTE is running.

Attempted:
Wiped Phone Clean and Restored from iCloud Backup.

Reset Network settings x100

VoLTE being off didn't seem to do anything.

I'm pretty sure Waze can only use Apple's APIs to access the GPS functions of the phone. So while Waze might be doing this differently than most other apps, but if there is a bug it's technically on Apple's or the Carrier's side.

While Waze seems to be the biggest offender, people in the thread have mentioned other GPS apps. Are you travelling at the same speeds and switching towers at the same rate with Map My Ride?

This seems like it's some sort of issue with the cellular modem firmware and Verizon's network as someone mentioned in the thread. The good news is that should be able to be fixed with a software update and probably isn't a hardware issues per se.

I am having the same problem

Since getting my iPhone 7 (128 GB, Verizon) when I use Waze and google maps it makes the signal weaken in areas with adequate cell coverage and then gets stuck on "no service". Only fix is toggling airplane mode and closing the app.

I have reset my phone, reinstalled the app and gotten a new SIM card, nothing works.

If I don't get this fixed soon I will have to return my phone as I need these apps working
