iPhone 7 gps and cell dropping

So, had my new phone for about 4 hours now and have had both GPS and cell service drop at the same time at least 8 times- typically only for about 2 minutes but as I was traveling and using navigation it was very difficult. Anyone else had this problem?

Same issue. I go for a walk everyday the same route. I use my phone the entire walk and have never had an issue. Got the 7 on Verizon yesterday. I've done the walk twice now and both times every 30 sec I drop service. LTE goes off and I lose internet connection completely. It stays off about 5 sec then comes back. Did this the entire walk. Took my wife's 5s with me this morning and watched side by side. 5s never dropped. 7 dropped 17 times.

I called Apple support and referenced this thread as well. They told me to reset network settings as expected. I haven't driven anywhere since yesterday, but I doubt this will resolve it as I've completely erased and restored my phone already. At least they have another documented case of the issue.

I just switched to Verizon and I am still within my 14 day trial period, and at this point I'm thinking of switching back despite the hassle. I never had problems like this with any GSM phone and my phone has also had issues switching between 3G and 1x in areas that have LTE coverage.

riding a bike at 12mph and using map my ride isn't fast in comparison to a car. The problem of no service isn't just isolated to Movement. I can be walking around one specific area and the phone struggles with LTE and gets stuck in 3G or No Service. I'm trying today to keep VoLTE off to see for now what that does. map my ride is another GPS based bike ride tracker per se. im not sure about the logistics of GPS based apps. I haven't done any long bike rides with map my ride yet to verify if it's going to knock the phone to no service like Waze does. Waze and no service happen too frequently together to not rule out. It happens once on way to work. once on way back. Both commutes Waze is on 25-45 mins

Hey Everyone,

Just to clear up some confusion. This can and DOES occur when not using Waze or another GPS app. I have personally seen it happen when using Waze, Google Maps, Apple Maps, and also while using no apps at all. I have also upgraded to iOS 10.0.2 which was just released yesterday (Sept 23rd) and it still occurs after that update.

Phone Being Used: iPhone 7 128GB Black on Verizon service.

Steps taken thus far:

  • Resetting Network Settings - No Effect
  • Remote Diagnostics with Apple Support - No Issue shown to Apple
  • Verizon Reset (thats what they called it, not really sure what they did on their side) - No Effect
  • Turning off LTE - Mostly positive results
  • Factory reset (2 Times) - No Effect
  • Re-seat SIM Card - No Effect
  • New SIM Card - No Effect
  • iOS 10.0.2 Update - No Effect

used map my ride this afternoon to bike to and from gym. no problems. about to commute to work with Waze. This time with VoLTE off (against my wishes) to test. Twitter support is beating around the bush asking me serial number and firmware and this and that. Not even getting to point. I even provided link to this thread. I'm going to apple and hoping they can do a swap on the spot.

i blasted them in return:

"Bottom line is this. And you're not even addressing the issue. The phone says no service at least 3-4x a day. Mostly when I am using gps for the Waze app. It's very inconvenient and unsafe to happen especially on the road. In case of an emergency I shouldn't have to wait 30 seconds or more for a phone to restart to use it for 911 or another emergency call. This is a widespread issue and needs addressing and fixing."

I am having the same issue. Just out of curiosity which maps app were you using? And what cell provider do you have? I have LTE and wondering if it's connected to the LTE radio. Interestingly I am keeping waze running in the background now and GPS is not having an issue. I'm betting the issue is related to the handoff between cell towers. That would explain the timing of how often it occurs and why it doesn't happen when I am not moving.

using Verizon here in NYC. Queens & Brooklyn. Spoke to apple support via phone. They have no internal indication of this being an issue. I directed they staff member to check the support threads. I'm going to swap the phone and hope that helps. He's following up Tuesday and is going to see what happens. He suggested trying a new SIM.

todays commute had VoLTE off with Waze running. Didn't hit the no service issue. So it seems to correlate with the VoLTE capability.

Same issue today with iPhone 7 plus on Verizon driving on highway in Virginia in an area with strong LTE coverage. Never had a drop there with iPhone 6. Both Cell signal and GPS dropped for several minutes. Turning off VoLTE seemed to resolve it for remainder of trip.

Hoping for a firmware fix, because VoLTE is the only way to get simultaneous voice and data on Verizon.

My wife and I area also both having these issues with our iPhone 7 phones on Verizon.

Yesterday we spent most of the day driving around various neighborhoods in our city, using Google Maps, etc.

Both of our phones constantly went from LTE to "No Service" or 3G/1x. They would rarely switch back to LTE on their own after losing LTE. Toggling airplane mode on/off sometimes fixed the problem, sometimes not. On 2 occasions I had to reboot my phone to get a usable data connection back.

This is getting REALLY old. I really wish we had never upgraded to the iPhone 7 and would have just stuck with out iPhone 6S phones on iOS 9, but we've already sent the 6S phones back to Verizon (monthly installments - annual upgrade).

Updating my previous post. I am having the same problem with my Since getting my iPhone 7 (128 GB, Verizon)

When I use Waze, apple and google maps the signal weakens in areas with adequate cell coverage and then gets stuck on "no service". Like others I have noticed it happens on Waze the most.

This is everything I have tried so far

  • Resetting Network Settings - No Effect
  • Diagnostics performed at Apple Genous Bar - No Issue shown
  • Updated carrier settings
  • Factory reset and starts as new phone
  • Factory reset and restore from backup
  • New SIM card
  • Updated iOS to 10.0.2
  • Deleted google maps and waze and reinstall.

The only fix is turn off Voice over LTE, which is unacceptable solution.

Settings> Cellular> Cellular Data Options> Enable LTE> Data Only.

If it is software or carrier issue why is it happening to only some people with Iphone 7’s?

Has anyone gotten their phone replaced?
