iPhone 7 gps and cell dropping

So, had my new phone for about 4 hours now and have had both GPS and cell service drop at the same time at least 8 times- typically only for about 2 minutes but as I was traveling and using navigation it was very difficult. Anyone else had this problem?

The GPS and LTE being independent is my point. If someone is just having problems with GPS only, it's probably a bad phone. Those losing all service and GPS at the same time seems a lot more like a software issue or if it's a hardware issue it's only exposed on Verizon. Given people have gotten several replacement phones with the issue and it seems to be impacting people who purchased at different times and in different areas, it would have to be a pretty large defective batch if it was just hardware.

I Too have been having the same exact problem. 3G to 1x To no service a lot! Other phones in the area are on full 4g at the time. Also it will say LTE but Siri, navigations and internet are all out then no service kicks in and my phones sometimes freezes up when it does this. Verizon 128 black plus. I called Verizon and Apple and Apple was aware of Airplane mode issue but this is not that. I've never been on airplane mode. My phone also gets really hot. 7 pages of this issue and still no response from Apple? When will they look into this? 1st time iPhone user and this *****

I have my iPhone 7 plus jet black for a week now and this is my experience with it. I commute every day by railroad. I sit in the same seat at the same time. For the past 2 years with my iPhone 6 I knew every area were signal strength was weak and strong. I even upgraded to iOS 10 as soon as it was released, but noticed no change in signal strength. Since using my iPhone 7 plus I almost never go into LTE. In areas where I had LTE I now only see 1x for extended periods of time with the resulting no data being received. I also noticed wifi strength is lower, but at least it doesn't disappear. I tired going to the macrumors thread but it shows as missing. Anyone have an updated URL?

Thisis a real problem, and now my wife is experiencing the same with her iPhone 7 plus. im going to try the above steps with shuttting of the HD voice, but I have to wait with I have both phones in order not to repeat it twice.

I'm having the same issue with the iPhone 7 128 GB on Verizon. Once I leave a wifi connection, the device loses signal, goes into 3G, then takes a few minutes to locate LTE. I live in NYC(Manhattan) and never had this situation on the 6s. Same thing on the Subway, the 7 loses connection where the 6s held a LTE connection. I'm on conference calls all day and can't switch the device to LTE only(I need email while using the phone). Running iOS 10.0.2 on the 7. Wish I keep my 6s.

Ive had the same issues mentioned here. Verizon iphone 7 256 GB Black. I had the iphone replaced with a new one and still having the exact same issues.

I track my bike rides with Strava and Cyclemeter. Have run a ton of tests with turning off wifi, my iwatch, taking the case off, etc... and still have portions of every ride where it loses GPS and says completely drops the ability to track me appropriately. So frustrating. Cmon Apple! Everything worked perfectly with my iphone 6.

Setting LTE to data only solves the problem of losing GPS and cell service (with WAZE in my case). However, I can't get accurate navigation when I talk on the phone in the car now. So, you can't multitask with LTE voice & data.

Verizon is sending me a new phone since mine is only a week old (7, 128gb). I have no idea if I'll get another bad one, but I will report back here.

Btw, I did virtually every other fix reported in these forums and nothing worked, other than turning off LTE voice.

I am now on my second Verizon issued 7, black 128. Same problem with the dropped LTE. I tried all of the fixes listed and have talked with Apple and Verizon tier 2 tech support. Verizon tech informed me that it is a know problem within Verizon and feels that a software patch from Apple will be the needed solution. Apple thinks that new SIM card may fix the problem. I have not tried the new SIM card, but doubt that it is a solution.

OK this is my second Post and this issue rendered my navigation completely useless tonight on my 35 mile drive tonight. 4 times for no shorter than 5min my service was out on my Verizon Iphone 7 plus 128gb. I couldnt call Verizon or Apple because of the lack of service so I could do nothing but pull over. This is terrible! How can Apple and Verixzon expect full payments for our new phones but yet we can't expect full service from our phones? There should be some discount from someone. I've felt with issues but this one is happening too and it renders my phone completely useless

Me too - I saw some publicity about this but referred to varizon users.

It isnt just Verizon. Im in Australia with Vodafone and had no problems with my iphone 6. Since upgrading to iPhone 7 calls drop out when when ever driving. GPS and data also.

I've turned off the vouice over 4G and some improvment.

I think its an antenna issue. Spewing... I would have stayed with the iphone 6 if I knew 😟

I'll just add that I have the same problem: No Service and loss of GPS while using nav software. iPhone 7 black 128GB Verizon.

It happened four days in a row on car trips. I missed an exit because Waze didn't know where I was. (Annoying that Waze didn't alert me) Airplane mode solved this one time, another time it didn't--I restarted the phone and it reaquired both signals. It also happened one day at my house. My iPhone 6 had service. iPhone 7 had none, and no wifi. Possibly this is related to background location services ising GPS? Anyway, very frustrating.

Anyone having good result contacting Apple or Verizon?

Update:

I have to admit. After following the steps posted by Macrumors (and here), I no longer have the issue. I commute to work by train about 1.5hrs each way. When I was having the issue, the phone was basically useless on the trip as It never held a signal for more than a few minutes. On the same commute, my iphone 6 had no issues. I followed the below steps and on 4 trips I now have zero issues holding a signal as I move at 65mph from tower to tower (constantly). It stays at "LTE" and acts as I would expect it to act.

I am a Verizon user but I suspect all carriers may have this issue in a few regions.

Basically:

- Settings > General > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE > Select "Data only" (this is temporary!)

- Back out of settings app

- If your service provider has something called "HD voice" or some feature that is supposed to enhance the audio quality of your call, have them turn it off. for verizon, you just go into your account online and can manually turn it off then re-add it. (turning this off is just temporary)

- Turn your phone off, wait 10 minutes

- Turn your phone back on, wait 10 minutes

- Turn "HD Voice" back on with your carrier/online in your carrier account settings

- Wait 15minutes

- Settings > General > Reset > "Reset Network Settings" This will restart your phone.

- Wait 10 minutes

- Settings > General > Cellular Data Options > Enable LTE > Select "Voice & Data"

-wait 10 minutes

- Restart phone just for good measure

All of the waiting I listed above is really just to make sure at each step your device is solidly connected to your carrier and any "handshake" with new instructions or settings are complete before going to the next step.

I would urge anyone who has tried this to try again and really give it time between each step. The process for me took a good 45min from start to finish. Again, im sure it can be done faster but I wanted to give it a full chance to settle in at each step and it all seems to be working now.

My assumption is that the carriers are aware and rolling out revised network settings over the air at different times to different areas and testing. Following the above steps ensures you are getting all of the latest carrier settings.

BTW my GPS seems to be working better now too. Waze has not dropped and is acting as it did with my iphone 6

I am having this issue as well. It's gotten worse. First noticed the GPS dropping out every 5 minutes using Apple maps on my regular commute where my iphone 6 had no issue. Then noticed I would always be in 3G or 1x or no service in areas I've never had issues before. Standing in the same spot, turning airplane mode on, then off put me back at LTE (full reception..full bars).

I agree with all that there is no way this phone is functional with this issue. It happens too often (multiple times a day) and thus makes the device completely unreliable.
