iPhone 7 gps and cell dropping

So, had my new phone for about 4 hours now and have had both GPS and cell service drop at the same time at least 8 times- typically only for about 2 minutes but as I was traveling and using navigation it was very difficult. Anyone else had this problem?

My wife and I both have iPhone 7 128GB Verizon. Mine is Jet Black and hers is Silver.

My phone has been dropping to "No Service" as described on this forum. My wife's phone, on the other hand, has not been dropping to "No Service", however every once in a while has been going to 3G / 1x. This has been annoying but nowhere near as frustrating as the No Service issue. So not all Verizon iPhone 7 phones are experiencing the No Service issue.

I went in to the Genius Bar and they are replacing my device. The tech also noticed that my phone was very hot (I had noticed it too after I unboxed it but thought it was a normal iPhone 7 thing).

My theory is that there are two issues: 1) the No Service issue is a result of bad hardware (antenna or something), but 2) that there's also an issue with Verizon (the 3G / 1x thing) that is confusing things.

This issue is dis-proportionally impacting Verizon phones from what I can see. People have also gotten replacement phones with the same issue. If there is a hardware issue, there would seem to be two possibilities:

1. There is a significant number of phones with issues (enough that replacements are coming with the same issue) and they are mostly focused in the Verizon model (and apparently some batches in EU).

2. There are a small number of actual hardware issues that explain the small number of AT&T phones reporting the issue. There is a much larger software issue that happens because of issues in specific networks. Verizon's infrastructure is much more likely to expose the software issue. Replacement phones that fix the problem may indicate Verizon has rolled out local changes to it's network in that area more than any difference in the phone (e.g. enabling VoLTE on all towers in an area).

Just went back to the Apple Store after support line had me perform network reset and factory restore over pay two days without improvements.

Genius Bar ran full diagnostics but did not find any issues. They were not inclined to replace the hardware and instead advised me to reach out to verizon first and/or perform another factory reset. Mentioning threads like this and hundreds of similar issues did not change their recommended next steps.

Too much hassle, so I decided to return the phone.

Jacob - a lot of people have this same problem. GPS is independent of LTE, so if both drop together, its more than a faulty GPS; it's likely on the board that brings them together and manages the antennae (the phone has multiple antenna) reception. A new phone might fix it, especially if its a bad batch of phones with a manufacturing defect.
