"Phone" app freeze on iOS 10

Are you sure you disabled and deleted the outlook contacts.

Settings>Contacts>Accounts>Outlook> Disable contacts.

I had the same issue for more than a month, and haven't had it since disabling the outlook contacts. It worked for one of my friend as well.

It's not just some random APPS... it is Apps that run using spell check against my address book proper names. When I type a text message and enter mico it shows the prompts including Mico (Mico Djokic) and I cannot select or let it auto-select that name. Total lockup except to double tap the home button and close the app. Over and over, highly repeatable until I powered off and back on. Next time it was my daughter Michelle's name in a FB Messenger app. Close app and retry worked. So it's not all the time and it is not always repeatable on closing the app. But it is proper names from my address book that are used by spell check. Started immediately after IOS 10 upgrade.

Well I did and returned to the phone app immediately, with the same result. Now I repeated the procedure because you insist it will work, and opening the phone app was fine. I suspect this is because it just happened and does periodically. I'll report back if or if not fixed.

No it won't. As long as they are synced on air, the contacts will be removed from iPhone only.

Boss you saying that the contacts will only be removed from my iPhone. But that's were I need my contacts, and you telling me to remove it

My contacts syncs with iCloud so that's why this won't be a problem, for me.

Sync all contacts to icloud/gmail first and then disable outlook.

I believe you are right benatwhodotnet , any app that is using the dictionary is having the freeze problem, this morning I was replying to a email and it froze again, just saw an update updating it, I hope that fixes.

FYI:

I updated to 10.1 just 30 mins back and so far so good, no freezes yet, I hope it stays that way

the "Phone" app still hangs and freezes after the latest IOS update.

Update:

After I disabled contacts from Hotmail/Outlook yesterday, the freezing has not bothered me this far.

Hopefully this will continue and Apple find a way to resolve this!

It worked for me and I'm glad it worked for you as well. Its been 2 days now and I haven't had the issue.

As I mentioned in my earlier post here, disabling non-iCloud contacts does solve the problem but then you need to figure out what you are going to do when you have contact in multiple accounts.

For example having a GMail account and an Android phone as well will in essence block you from having the same contacts shared between the two. If you have a Mac you can manually try to keep the accounts in sync. Especially when you've created a new contact on your phone (exists on your iOS, is not synced with Gmail and is not available on your Android).

Either way, we should not be treating this anything else but a bug for Apple to solve. At the very least the Phone.app should not be crashing (or freezing).

I advice people affected by this bug to contact Apple support and put some pressure on them. I did today.

Ideally, something/anything/nothing should be able to cause, in my opinion, the most important function on a phone to crash/freeze!

As a sidenote; maybe they want us to accept that phones, in the future, does not need a Phone.app as we obviously dont need a jack?
