CarPlay problems after iOS 10 Update

Ever since iOS 10 my CarPlay functions have been very glitchy, mostly when I got navigation going on at the same time. Here's a few things I encounter:

  • Music freezes (can't change songs, can't tap into the app if I tap out of it, icon zooms in once it gets past freezing)
  • Siri mutes herself when reading texts (only seems to happen when I listen to a text straight from a notification
  • CarPlay itself randomly disconnects for a couple seconds at a time (although it MAY be my wire but it has yet to show any tears)

Also some other pet peeves from BEFORE iOS 10 that are still happening now with Music:

Some radio station genres found in Apple Music on iPhone/iPad/Mac are not listed in CarPlay

Anyone else w/ CarPlay suffering from these problems?

iPhone 6s, iOS 10

How I fixed it. Most syncing issues via bluetooth/usb connection to car can be resolved by a firmware update to your particular stereo in your car...but who has time to wait for the manufacturer to make the update. Try this fix and see if it helps you as it did for me. Go into setttings:general:restrictions on your iPhone, make sure the application you want to use is enabled, mine had magically turned off apple music connect. Turned it back on..walla. Before, my car would play all music which was not downloaded to my iPhone and skip over songs and I'd have no control over volume, that's because my car would play through iTunes store on my iPhone because my music app was disabled in my restrictions...how? i do not know. You may try to turn off a few things that interfere with the compatibility, i.e.. CarPlay so it forces your car to just play off your iPhone and not through CarPlay from your stereo of your car. This may be a little annoying if you really use car play to voice control settings in your car...but till the update, this may work for you. don't forget your restriction passcode, you forget it, you will not be able to turn these features back on or off later!

Didn't work for me. I "used to use" CarPlay exclusively for all its' functionality, but now, in order to get pandora to work, I have to run it through a second USB port, which is fine but NO CARPLAY. I thought about going back to iOS 9.3 but since i didn't back up prior to the new install, I am reticent to install a "9.3 iOS" that is supposedly from Apple. Anyways I will soldier on with the lesson learned, ALWAYS BACKUP and DON'T BE AN EARLY ADOPTER. I am getting old but I must be getting senile as well. Best of Luck to others and hope Apple gets on the stick to fix this glaring bug.

My, follow up, I reset the the phone re installed ios10 a lot less glitchy, however my i messages still are muted when Siri tries to read them In CarPlay. This was a iphone6 plus on a 2016 Sonate. For grins I plugged in my wife's 6s Plus running ios10 and it worked fine. There is one silver lining in this I took advantage of the $650 trade in offer Apple is offering through Verizon and for $119 out of pocket I will have a new 7 plus in a few weeks. I didn't want to upgrade initially because my phone was perfect until the update, and I didn't want to pay the monthly payment to finance the phone and have the bill go up $30. So alll should be right in a few weeks.

No way that something working before the update to iOS 10, must be fixed by car manufacturers.

When Apple releases a software update, it must work as it did before the update for the same functionality (i.e. playlist ordering, a real shame). I would agree as far as new functions are concerned, like the new turn by turn directions in the instrument panel.

This time Apple did very poor quality control before releasing iOS 10, despite all the public betas. It's unacceptable that such evident bugs did their way to users.

I agree with you, if it was working fine before iOS10 it should work following the update. If it doesn't, Apple bears responsibility in my opinion. The whole purpose of Carplay is to take the inconvenience of having to deal with your infotainment system away, the average user should not have to update their firmware on the car system or else it's a bad experience.

Interestingly after downgrading to iOS9 and then restoring to iOS 10.0.2 through iTunes, Carplay is now working fine again. Carplay does seem slower than on iOS9 but that just could be my perception. Be interesting to see when or if I encounter issues with it again but today it has worked perfectly.

Had no problems before upgrading to iOS10 but. Now my 2016 Honda Civic will not recognize the device. It worked for a week or so after upgrading with issues. I usually had to unplug and replug in my phone for it to work. Kept getting a device not supported. Now the car doesnt recognize there's something plugged in. Tried restarting phone and car and switching cables. Nothing works. Going to try a hard reset/restore of phone.

I bought a brand new 2016 Honda Civic about 3 months ago, before the iOS update. Apple car play worked great. Since the update, my music freezes, my music no longer pauses automatically when I make a telephone call (it continues to play while I'm on the phone), and my music goes nearly mute through the stereo when I open my phone.

I know it's not my car. If anyone has any solutions, please let me know. Glad to see I'm not alone.

Thanks.

2016 Civic, iPhone 6 and iOS 10.1 with same issues. Even in iOS 10 public beta it worked fine. The latest iOS update hosed it and the car no longer even recognizes the phone at all. Tried rebooting, cable, everything. Obviously a bug on Apple's end and they need to fix this immediately. Not having hands-free in your carplay enabled auto is a serious issue!
