iPhone 7 Plus keeps freezing

Good morning -

I have a question about my iPhone 7 Plus. It seem that it keeps freezing in the middle of a task. It happens in native (iMessage, Phone) and downloaded apps ( facebook, pinterest). I either have to shut the apps down, or reboot my phone all together.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what did you do to fix it? Or is there any insight as to why this is happening on my 3 day old iPhone 7Plus?

My iPhone 7 Plus (128 mb) freezes all the time. I can't install an app without rebooting. I have turned off automatic updates because every time something install my phone is useless until I reboot. I have to reboot 1 to 2 times per day.

This is my 5th iPhone and the first time I have had these kinds of problems. My wife has an iPhone 7 and no issues. Whenever I contact support they tell me to restore the device, which I have done, but it doesn't help.

Frankly I think this phone is a lemon and it is very frustrating. This morning I nearly missed an important meeting because my phone froze in the middle of the night and my alarm didn't go off.

Good & Bad news for me. Bad that it’s happening but good to know I am not alone.

This is Crazy ridiculous since this is the first time I had to pay an almost whopping $1000 for this FREEZING PHONE.

If I got it for free with a 2 year contract like the previous iPhones it wouldn’t make me as mad as it does now that I am paying big bucks for the Freezing Phone. It’s literally driving me nuts.

I walked into Verizon today and the guy said he hadn’t heard of this issue! I almost fell over. My daughter and I have exactly the same issues. I googled the freezing issue and found this discussion.

Keep your fingers crossed they fix this ASAP.

For anyone who has been experiencing this problem more recently (Dec. 2017), this is still a recurring issue with the iPhone 7 Plus.

I've tried the reset settings solution, but even after setting up everything again, my phone is still experiencing the same issues: the phone freezes and cannot access any apps, it just allows me to pull down the notification screen and respond to messages from there. Other then that, the phone is completely frozen and can only be reset using the down volume button and the lock button.

If there are any other suggestions that may work to stop this freezing issue, I would love to hear it.

Have you restored the phone to factory state and tested?

I have not restored the phone to factory state and tested it. I would prefer to not have to factory reset my phone unless it is the absolute last possible solution.

Staying hopeful, since I've only tried one seemingly promising solution (reset all settings). There must be other ways to get around this? Also, I have just updated to the very latest iOS 11.2—so i'm also waiting to see if this update is helpful.

Back the phone up, then restore it as new and test. If that doesn't resolve the issue, then restore to the back up.

As this is not something that happens to all iPhone 7+ phones, it's very likely there is actually more than one problem and more than one solution. If the problem is with an app or some data that you've put on your phone (very likely), then restoring it as new should stop the freezing. That's the easy part. The hard part is figuring out what the cause of the problem was and what you can put back on your phone and how.

I hope the update resolves your issues but, as it is unlikely that the problem is iOS related, I would be surprised.

This is so frustrating. I’ve had every iPhone since the first and yeah they usually slow down a little bit over time but after updating my iOS twice in the last 2 weeks I feel like my iphones preformance just went down the drain. It’s always freezing!! I have to do a hard reset and then try going back to the app. Now since last night there is another iOS update but that will probably slow things down even further so I don’t know if updating is a good idea.

My iphone 6 plus does the same thing but I saw there is a class action lawsuit (which I joined) because these devices have a loose part that causes the phone to be unresponsive. The reason I joined this suit is because I am elderly and if my phone freezes up in an emergency and I can't reach 911, there is going to be **** to pay. Verizon and Apple are both unresponsive in offering to give me a new phone. i would have to pay Apple to ship it in and get it fixed. Crazy. I am Apple crazy about my phone but getting ready to go to a Windows phone if not resolved.

Yes have a very consistent freeze of the screens touch response. After using my wallets American Airlines boarding pass, and by the time they m in my seat, the screen has frozen. Nothing changes it except for a power button down volume restart.

My phone is completely current iOS. And has done this through the last few versions. My phone is a 7plus

If your that cool when your old id be surprised.... Maybe he's or she has a source. I know last summer they still had them out at the Microsoft store. There not gonna drop support for them over night either. So maybe they like windows and are willing to buy one online I mean they run windows 10 they of course support that aswell the phone is just a vessel for the os. No I don't have one.

Hello Mary1973,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I know how exciting a new iPhone can be and I'd love to help get yours working as expected. There are a couple things that might cause a new Phone to act the way you've described, for example if you restored from a backup of your previous phone some of the settings may be using older data. To fix this you can reset the settings on your iPhone.

What this effectively does is to reset some of your settings to factory default. This does not remove any data like apps, photos or contacts, but It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Touch ID, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy, so we'll have to set those things back up after this reset.

To do this go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

If you had set your phone up as new without transferring data from another phone, let us know and the community will help find the best solution.
Best regards
