iPhone 7 Plus keeps freezing

Good morning -

I have a question about my iPhone 7 Plus. It seem that it keeps freezing in the middle of a task. It happens in native (iMessage, Phone) and downloaded apps ( facebook, pinterest). I either have to shut the apps down, or reboot my phone all together.

Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, what did you do to fix it? Or is there any insight as to why this is happening on my 3 day old iPhone 7Plus?

Whenever I contact support they tell me to restore the device, which I have done, but it doesn't help.

Are you restoring the phone from a back up? Or back to factory state. If you've only tried restoring it to a back up, the next step would be to try restoring it to factory state then testing it for several days.

The problem won't go away with a reset, becaue the problem is a device problem, with all iPhone 7 Plus almost. I have 7 friends with iPhone 7 Plus devices, and they all have the same problem. I think the problem is more that the manufacturers don't accept that the problem is a generic software / hardware problem (generic meaning 'from Apple')

In my previous career, I handled service and technical support in a major U.S. cell phone carrier's store. So, I probably have more experience with phone issues than most people. This is not a common problem. That doesn't mean your problem isn't real. You have reported in another thread that the phone did this from the time you got it. However, for some reason, instead of dealing with the problem by returning it to Apple, you kept the phone and then keep complaining about it. I think it's quite possible you have a defective phone. What did Apple say when you took it in for service?

I have an iPhone 7 Plus that doesn't freeze, has great battery life and has never overheated, even when mounted on the dashboard in the summer sun with navigation and streaming music running.

This is so frustrating. I’ve had every iPhone since the first and yeah they usually slow down a little bit over time but after updating my iOS twice in the last 2 weeks I feel like my iphones preformance just went down the drain. It’s always freezing!! I have to do a hard reset and then try going back to the app. Now since last night there is another iOS update but that will probably slow things down even further so I don’t know if updating is a good idea.

Hello Mary1973,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Community. I know how exciting a new iPhone can be and I'd love to help get yours working as expected. There are a couple things that might cause a new Phone to act the way you've described, for example if you restored from a backup of your previous phone some of the settings may be using older data. To fix this you can reset the settings on your iPhone.

What this effectively does is to reset some of your settings to factory default. This does not remove any data like apps, photos or contacts, but It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do Not Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Touch ID, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy, so we'll have to set those things back up after this reset.

To do this go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings.

If you had set your phone up as new without transferring data from another phone, let us know and the community will help find the best solution.
Best regards

I Have had the same problems. Sometimes the touch screen wouldn't respond either! I hate to reset, but at this point, I have no choice!! It takes away one of the things I love most about the iPhone and upgrading. Your settings will transfer to your new device! Having to figure out the settings I have done over several models will be painful to say the least and very time-consuming! Shame on you Apple!! You should come up with a fix for this!

I have the same issue with my 128 GB iPhone 7 plus .. 5 days old phone .. bought on 7th October..

The applications where i have noticed the HANG / Freezing issue:

Phone App

Text Messaging

Typing Notes

My case has been escalated to the Engineering team .. Crash logs have been uploaded to them..

Still waiting for a response / fix from their side..

Sad to know that reputed brand like APPLE has these kind of issues with their new product and customers have to suffer..

The amount of time being spent in troubleshooting to get resolution / fix or a replacement .. IS IT WORTH ?

Support or Replacement may be free but IS IT WORTH after spending so much time ??

I wish APPLE has some customer service department which compensates for this pain caused to Customers !!

NOT SURE if APPLE even bothers about what time is being spent into this by customers ..

I feel embarrassed to even discuss this with my friends who are on ANDROID..

Wish they provide me with resolution fast ..

I have the exact problem on my iPhone 7 Plus (128 GB). Except when mine freezes, my home button is completely unresponsive and cannot switch the device off via holding down the sleep button.

I tried doing the soft reset using the old combination of holding the Home button while simultaneously holding the Sleep button but I didn't realize this combination has been changed with the iPhones 7 and 7 Plus.

The new combination to soft reset your phone is by: holding the Sleep button AND the Volume Down buttons simultaneously for 15 seconds until you see the screen changed to the Apple logo. I wasn't able to try this fix since I was not aware of it the last time that my phone froze but I will try it the next time it happens and report back.

In the interim, I really hope Apple's Devs are working on an iOS patch to resolve this issue...

IT looks like Apple has become a nocturne money thirst than service rendered I have had my iPhone plus 256. Gold for just three days but the screen freezes and home button fail to respond as well.

THus made me uspet that I went to the Apple Store in my city Of Towson Maryland, and guess what they said since I am a Tmobile customer they can't help me think about for a minute where is the warranty for one year and when does it apply? Well and about to report this to the FCC and other helpful departments. If this continues an suing Apple and Tmobile as the don't want to fu d the solution to this problem.
