iPhone 7 Microphone Cutting Out

I have a new iPhone 7 Plus 128gb running iOS 10.0.2. During phone calls, both speakerphone and handheld, callers tell me that while I'm talking, my voice will cut out and they hear garbled static (btw, this happened before updating to 10.0.2 as well). It is like wind noise in sound. Sometimes it works without issue, and other times it doesn't. After a call is ended, I can call back and the caller says that they can barely hear me, but the static is not there anymore.

I am in the process of restoring the phone to factory settings to see if that will fix the problem. But it really sounds like a hardware problem. Does anyone know of this problem being similar to yours Or one that you've heard of?

would you think that this is a hardware problem rather than software problem?

If it is a hardware problem, should I work with AT&T where I got the phone or should I try I do a warranty replacement through Apple?

Got on chat with Apple support and she suggested:

Our next step is to Reset Network Settings on your iPhone

This step will not erase personal data, but will refresh connections.

To do that please go to

1. Settings

2. General

3. Reset

4. Reset Network Settings.

even if it lines the problem out temporarily and i have to re-do it at least my phone is working again until they fix permanently.

Did you ever get a fix? I have the same iPhone 7 plus 128gb. People kept telling me they couldn't hear me and sometimes if I switched to speaker it would get better for a moment. I thought mic was an issue and its not because the voice recorder works fine. If you use the headset its perfectly clear too. I test it with my second line and yeah starts off ok then makes a little garble and wind sound and barely hear you and then pretty much cuts out. If you switch to speaker phone it kinda works better. If you plugin the headset though its perfectly clear. Ive reset network settings and did nothing. Ive had it on both my IPhone 7's so far.

Tried turning off 4G as well as other solutions mentioned here. None of them worked. From the other submissions it's clear that the fault is volatile and that Apple still seems to be in denial. Back to the O2 shop this afternoon...

I still have my iPhone 6 that works - I just wanted more storage, hence a new device. After 12 days of trying oodles of steps suggested in this forum and through tech articles I've read online, nothing has worked. (I've even been on a trip to Toronto, and the problem persists.) It's not the LifeProof case, it's not the background noise cancelling button, it's not the LTE voice setting, etc.. For $650+, it should work right the first time, or even the second time upon a replacement phone! Too may people here have gone to great lengths to resolve the problem, many without resolution. So, I give up.

I don't have the time for the hassle of being bounced between tech support personnel or stores (as blame is shifted back and forth). While I still have time, I'm taking my device back to Verizon and getting my money back (less the $35 restocking fee, which is a small price to pay versus a $650 device that doesn't work for its primary purpose of phone calls). I'll go back to my perfectly functional iPhone 6, leave some music behind that's otherwise stored on it, and use it until it dies. Then? Who knows. As much as I love my iPhones 4 and 6, if Apple can't get its act together, I'll move on to a different brand. I long ago loved Motorola.

Same problem only I'm with Verizon. I have reset everything and nothing works for longer than a single call. Verizon even sent me a replacement reconditioned phone that had the same issue only worse on the very first call. We put a new SIM card in and that helped for a few calls but it is beginning to cut out again less than 24 hours later. Come on Apple you can fix this.

Same issue here. Iphone 7 plus, mic cutting out. I've worked with apple support for two days. At one point they told me to use a third party video app instead of the apple pre loaded "camera" app! Then, I had to reset to factory settings. Then the guy just told me that they won't replace the phone if they can fix it and I'll be without a phone for days while it gets repaired. Come on Apple! This is obviously a hardware issue as none of your "fixes" are working. Replace the phones. Do the right thing here.

Had the same problem with a phone acquired from O2 in the U.K. Phoned and explained the problem, new phone delivered by courier the next day in exchange for the faulty one. Service couldn't have been better, but what happened to Apple's quality assurance? Even their reputation for excellence can be tarnished if they do not rectify this.

Why is Apple still refusing to acknowledge that their fixes are inadequate, when their dealers are replacing phones without squabbling?

Having the same wind tunnel problems. iPhone 7 128gb, less than 2 weeks old. Literally started happening in the middle of a conversation, had to use my wife's SE to finish the call. Plugging in headphones works, but shutting off, speaker or any other configuration including FaceTime does not work. Super unhappy about spending $750 on a phone with mic issue and I get to spend time troubleshooting.

Hi I'm glad I'm not the only one with this problem unless I hold the phone very close to my mouth

I'm told my voice keeps fading away and distorts

I only had the iPhone 7 for 3 months spoke to apple did the reset then they agreed to replace the phone no different with replacement it works fine on hands free in my car didn't have the problem with any previous models when u pay £600 for latest model u expect it to work without these basic problems don't think apple are interested in addmiting there is a problem may switch to new Samsung
