Wow, this worked. Don't know why this crash occurred but this 2 button process did the trick. THANKS

It worked! On step 3, I connected to power (not the computer) and it worked. I imagine if it doesn't come back you have to plug into a computer and restore ... via steps 4+.

I have been trying to sort this for over 5 hours, just about going loopy, saw this, tried it worked immediately!

The Power + Volume Down buttons combo finally powered the screen off for me.

Then, I simply used the power button to turn the phone back on. Got the black background with white Apple logo booting screen, then it asked for my passcode and I was back in! Now I'm able to use my brand new phone again.

Ugh! This just happened to me! My phone has been acting very goofy since the last update. I make phone calls to my husband that he does not receive... sometimes it just freezes when I try to make a call. My data has also gone over the past 2 months and I know I have not used that much/ no apps open etc.

I work in a emergency setting and have always been able to rely on my phone... tonight while working it froze while trying to make a call and is now stuck on the black screen spinning wheel for over 15 min. The suggested vol down, power down while plugged in did nothing. This is not ok in my line of work! I have never had this many problems with an iPhone before. Im beyond bummed.

We followed these steps and this solution worked for us too. We only had to go to step 3 as well. Thank you so much for posting all this!! It made our day!

none of that worked for me on my iphone 7, it was a black screen a spinning wheel for at least 5+ minutes. it started after trying to look at the weather widget for more info.

heres what i did

hold down the volume down + home button + lock button. After that it restarted and all is normal

hey thanks this worked, seems simple but this is an issue I am facing quite often with my brand new iPhone 7 Plus and for the price it costs I'm a little ****** that there has been no patch for this yet. none the less thank you for the tip I did not know about the POWER + VOLUME DOWN tip
