No message alert (sound/vibration) when locked

My iPhone 6 Plus Running iOS 10.0.2 does not give an audible (or vibration) alert for new messages when locked. This is a standard Apple iPhone 6 Plus. I'm not running any jail broken software.

The Problem:

When I receive a text / iMessage AND the screen is locked I do not get an audible or silent (vibration) alert. This just stated happening as I was receiving alerts yesterday. I DO get sounds and vibration notifications if the phone is unlocked when the message arrives. The visual notification DOES appear on the lock screen when I wake the phone up. It also appears if the lock screen is awake but not unlocked (but without sound or vibration.) I have also tried rebooting and turning off various other settings... I DO get alerts on my Mac & Apple Watch...

Settings > Sounds :

Vibrate on ring and Vibrate on Silent are both on (green)

Ringer is set to max and "Change with buttons" is off (gray)

The text tone is set to Classic Noir and vibration is set to heart beat.

I have tried different audible and vibration alerts,. It does not fix the problem

Settings > Notifications > Messages :

Allow Notifications is on (Green)

Show in notification center is on (Green)

Badge App Icon is on (Green)

Show in lock screen is on (Green)

Sounds is set to Noir / Vibration Heart beat

DND :

Do not disturb is off (gray)

Hard Witch / Silent Mode :

I typically keep the switch in the off (silent / Orange) position. However in my testing I tired it enabled and disabled. It does not make a difference i do not get any sort of alert if the screen is locked.

Again I have tried a various combination of enabling these and disabling these with no change.

The notifications work like the link provided. Notifications on your Apple Watch - Apple Support When you have the watch on, and the watch is configured with Wrist Detection, and the phone is locked, notifications will only appear on the Watch. If the phone is unlocked, they will appear on the iPhone, and not the Watch. If you wish for notifications to appear on both devices, you would need to turn off Wrist Detection in the Watch app on the iPhone. That does, however, come with its own set of issues. With that turned off, Apple Pay will no longer work, as well as some other features. They are all explained in that link I provided before. Turning off Wrist Detection is the only way for notifications to appear on both devices, so that must have been the way you had it configured in the past. If you wish to see a change as you mentioned, then provide feedback to Apple here, https://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html

It may seem a little extreme, however your problem is extreme. If you are not receiving notifications, it very well could be a software problem. I hesitate to use the word bug, since that could indicate that many or all are experiencing this behavior. No one that I know is experiencing this, so I will say software issue. The only way to troubleshoot and diagnose a software issue is to make changes to the software. The next step after that would be eliminating hardware. If you are reluctant to make the software changes, to diagnose hardware, then I guess there is nothing that I can add. Sorry for your problems.

iOS 10 SMS and iMessage notification issues

As recommended in the thread above, after disabling my bluetooth on my rMBP I started to receive notifications (on my phone) again. I did not perform a factory reset & restore. Disabling bluetooth on my rMBP was all that was required.

That said, I believe the following information to be important. I have a 2015 15" rMBP running macOS Sierra and an Apple Watch Original (SS) Running watchOS 3. I use 2FA to unlock my MBP. Obviously thanks to coherence all of my Apple devices talk to each other.

This is NOT a solution and I have just traded one problem for another. I need bluetooth (on all of my devices) enabled for a number of reasons on a daily basis.

I still live this to be a software bug in either iOS or macOS....

I'm not a Mac user, so I could not troubleshoot that end of things. I know I don't have any issues with my iPhone 7 and my Apple Watch, and did not have it on my iPhone 6S and my Apple Watch using iOS 10.x. Now, if you are using the Apple watch, and are wearing it, you should be getting your notifications on the watch, and not the iPhone. The only difference is if you have Wrist Detection turned off. Then you would see notifications on both devices. See this support document about how notifications work with the Apple Watch. Notifications on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

Information about the watch would have helped earlier. If you are not using the watch, or have it set without Wrist Detection, then there is still an issue with the phone.

Hello all,

I've been using my new Apple Watch for a few days now and I'm enjoying it. However, this issue with notifications not appearing on my iPhone when the watch is on my wrist and the iPhone is locked is really annoying. You should at least be able to have the ability to decide how you want to handle your notifications.

Hope this changes in a software update very soon.

The link I provided above shows how Notifications work. If you wish to see notifications on the watch and the iPhone, you need to turn off Wrist Detection. However, that defeats other functions on the Apple Watch. When it does notification on the watch and not the phone, it is working as it is designed to work. If you don't like that, then provide feedback to Apple here, http://www.apple.com/feedback/watch.html and let them know what you would like to see.

I just encountered the exact same issue! i have an iphone 7plus. Not jail broken either. Just started happening this evening. when the phone is unlocked (open) I get alerts. I get notifications as well on my apple watch and macbook but none on my device. DND is not used and no unauthorized apps are loaded on the device. Just the phone acts like its in DND mode but its actually not. Anyone know how to send a report to apple from the phone?
