No place to enter verification code in iCloud

Hi. Reset my Apple ID password via iphone after someone overseas apparently tried to use it. Now I'm logging in on my Mac. I can enter the new password and receive the verification code on my phone, but there's no place to enter it in iCloud. It says "An Apple ID verification code is required. Type your password followed by the verification code shown on your other devices." But there's nowhere to enter the code.

So stupid! What do I do?

I FIGURED IT OUT!

"Type your password followed by the verification code shown on your other devices." Is the message you see. We insert it at the end of your password! ok duh we get this after a quick google. The answer to the question you are asking is this:

Exit the icloud preferences by clicking the go back Arrow (top left corner of pref. window), it will take you to System Preferences main menu, and then click the right arrow to go back into the icloud preference.

You now should have the ENTER PASSWORD field again instead of just the stupid message with no where to type.

Now,

Visit https://appleid.apple.com/ and sign in. You will receive a verification code on your secondary device.

Go back to icloud preferences and now insert your password followed by the verification code with no space in-between the two.

SO funny how people don't understand the question we are asking. You clearly said, there is no where to type and the guy tells you to type lol.

OSX 10.9.5, had updated the PW from another machine, and one machine kept continually cycling the ICloud Preferences "enter password - send code - Now type in your password with code - no field to type it in - enter password again with code as instructed , it treats it as a new login says Invalid Password and takes you to the start of the loop & sends a new code.

Other machines had provided a field for entry of the code. this machine/OSX combination did not. ICloud preferences gives no option other than cycling through the loop again.

Thank you to iiviixi for the solution. Since the iCloud preference gets in a loop, generating part of the process outside the preference breaks the loop.

LACAllen, it is not helpful to keep repeating 'just do what I said' for four pages when you are not in possession of the same set of conditions and facts as the askers (and refuse to believe them when they say theirs is different and your method did not work) Yes, the format of typing the password you provided is accurate. No you cannot do it from where the problem occurred. No there is no other dialog box (I looked, many times) Yes, it is completely counter-intuitive that you have to spit off to another application to generate a new code instead of following the instruction in the current application. No my OSX is not corrupt and does not need to be installed.

The point is LAC and others who belittled the people having problems, what worked for you does not necessarily work for others who have different conditions.

I was looking through some of my old things and found my iphone 3GS. After turning it on and all the stuff, I tried using my iCloud ID from my new iphone. It read "Type your password followed by" da di da. So I did. I got a verification by logging into my icloud online. Type in my password, e.g. Oranges123 + vertification code 654321= Oranges123654321 but guess what? Password is wrong. What is this going backwards thingy you guys are saying seriously nothing is working

I had this problem and the answer suggested by Apple in the first reply does fix the problem. When you get the prompt to enter the verification code press OK. You then see your Apple ID, with dots on the password box. DELETE THESE DOTS, then enter your password and the verification code as a single entry. That takes you you the Apple agreement page, hit ‘agree’ and you are on your way!

Thank you for posting this! I have the exact same issue... and the answers to add the verification code to the end of the password do not work, since the message comes up AFTER I enter my password and then there's no where to enter both. Did you find the feedback you got helpful.

I've been an avid Apple lover for years, but iCloud, iPhone and the "new and improved" Apple systems leave a lot to be desired. I never thought I would say this, but I've considered switching camps as much as I hate the alternative.

I figured that's what that meant, however I have the same issue and the problem I have is that the verification code isn't ask for until after I've already entered the password and then there is no place to enter the verification code. I tried logging back in a second time and adding the verification code but then it sends a different code and the former one is invalid. 😢

I have as of 2018 about a 4 year old apple tv. Signed in to my apple tv with apple userid and pw no problem. Then it says something about verification. Then it prompts me with my apple userid after talking about verification. Tried what the guy above said (concat verfication code and pw) and apple tv gave "incorrect password". I work with this stuff a lot and whenever there is a verification loop there is a special screen to accept the phone verification id only, this definitely isn't happening on my apple tv. What did work for me is I have a late model Mac. On my Mac for some reason it asked for the verification code and I gave it and it seemed to accept it.

Hello LACAllen, if I enter that 6-digit code in the password field, it does not work as well. Please see...

That is not how to do it

you enter your password followed by the 6 digit verification code (no spaces) into the password filed (NOT the code and not the password but the password FOLLOWED by the code as posted by LACAllen

Exactly as it says...

If your password is Apple! and your verification code is 123456, type Apple!123456 in the password field.

Your password followed by the verification code.

Gail,

Thanks I was able to get this. I was having the problem on a 2nd gen apple tv. Someone was a genius and figured out that these apple text prompts expire after 30 seconds, which is tough when you hunting and pecking for the characters with an apple tv remote. The solution is to put your password in first then reply to the phone prompt to get the 6 digit key they want concatenated. Then you only have to put in the 6 numbers in 30 seconds. But I'm sure tons of people who have 7+ character apple passwords are going to say that it doesn't work. I wanted to cancel 2 factor auth but then they turn off your apple pay so I guess they are sacrificing the apple tv on the alter of 2 factor auth.

Thanks for posting back flash! Your findings may be extremely helpful for others.

The reason I asked is because I have an iPad 1, and was asked for a Verification Code to sign it back into Messages. I tried the password/verification code combination several times, but got the "invalid password" response. So, I tried using an App-specific passcode (this is an old device, remember), and voilà!

Thanks again,

GB

I am finding the once you do put in this 2 factor auth it doesn't ask for it a lot after that. Like you can buy a movie and it doesn't ask for a 2 factor auth to buy it.

Right, it only asks the first time you sign into your Apple ID after completely signing out. If you try to access your Apple account, however, it always asks.

Thanks, LACAllen. Your solution does work.

But Apple's instructions are not clear, hence the OP's enquiry (and that of dozens of others like me!).

Apple, why don't you provide clearer instructions, such as ...

"In the password field, type your password followed immediately by the verification code sent to your other device(s). Do not include spaces after the between the password and the verification code or within the verification code."
