iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

To the folks suggesting this is gps/app related, I just want to point out (also listed in an earlier post) that I experienced the battery drain issue more than once while traveling with my phone in airplane mode.

I was traveling for 16 days in China in late November. Maybe paranoid, but I'd read: "do not use hardware you care about on public wifi", so my iphone was in airplane mode with wifi off for the entire trip. It was an expensive camera. No apps were ever open besides camera. While in airplane the battery dropped from 50/30% to 0. If I caught it and plugged into my powerpack the charge would return to the higher number within 30 seconds. If I didn't catch it. it powered off. As soon as I plugged into battery again it would come back at 30/50%.

I previously commented on this thread early on. I'm so shocked at the problems people are having with the iOS 10 since it came out. I previously had the 6S and experienced some trouble early on, but after the first update, it seemed fine. Once I updated to the iPhone 7 in October, I never had any troubles. I did notice a couple glitches here and there with 10.1.1 but never experienced any of the battery troubles mentioned here. My sister's iPhone 7 had problems getting super hot initially, but resolved itself after the first update. I am using the Beta version, and she is not. I'm wondering if there is a popular app or two that most people use that could be triggering this problem with users... We are some of the fortunate ones who have not been affected by the battery troubles like most of you for any of our iPhone 7's, and additionally an iPhone 7 Plus that we have in the family. I DID have a problem getting locked up a few times with 2 difference weather apps, and had to delete those right away... once I got rid of them, the problems went away. I would recommend checking some of your apps that might be running in the background that aren't working well with the newest iOS. I found eliminating apps one at a time and seeing if that helps, has actually resolved issues in the past.

I don't want to come across as a jerk, but the previous post before yours is from me. I just explained that no apps were open and this happened in airplane mode.

I'd also add that if you read through any of the 50+ pages of posts, folks have restored to a fresh install and installed no/minimal apps and still had the problem.

Lastly, I fail to see how an app can make the battery prematurely drain to nothing from 30% or more charge. Then as soon as you plug the phone into power it comes back with 30% or more battery life. If app caused this the battery would drain to 0 and when you plug it you would see the charge slowly charge up from 0 (because the battery was fully discharged). Instead we plug in and within 30 seconds we are back to 30% or 50%...wherever we were before it freaked out. To me and many others this is clearly a ios software issue. This started immediately after upgrading.

I am fortunate enough to not have my battery drop from various percent to zero. It happened only once when i started new through iTunes to 10.2, but it was from cca 70% to 0% and I mean really zero, battery didnt jump to 70 after plugging.

Then i downgraded to 10.1.1 and via phone to 10.2. Currently on 10.2.1 beta and Still have battery problem which is draining in standby.

I currently have 1!!! App which is youtube, everything is off and phone still drains in standby, cca 10% in 1,5h. Im happy if phone lasts 15 hours with light usage (messages, few short calls). Worst is that battery usage isnt showing so i cant tell what is draining my phone the most.

Anyone else has their phone draining like mad while idle? Its like the phone never wend into standby at all..

My iPhone 6 has all the battery issues described . Shutting down on 30% or other times it's charge goes from 40% to 10% in the blink of an eye !!!

I have this issue still on 10.2 and also my wife with the same model as me.

Apple , time for a proper recall on all those affected . You now have the way to see into the issue on 10.2 so it shouldn't take long .

Hi,

Same issue with my iphone6 for 2 or 3 month now. The iphone is currently impossible tu use as it can swith off at all time. 2 appointments on an apple store : out of garantee. 4 calls to appel : "we don't know the issue, but sure it will be fixed in one week..." but it was 4 weeks ago... and it is not still fixed at all, it's even worth.

It now looks more a planned obsolescence than anything else, Apple doesn't communicate about this issue, doesn't care about their scammed customers...

@Apple : can you wake up ???

Does anyone know if we can do a trial to apple in order to make them move on ? As the China governement did fe month ago ?
