iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

Rene, test your iPhone 7 switched off for 3.5 hours and see if it still drains a similar amount while switched off. If it does ..book a Genius Bar appointment at an Apple store and explain the situation there. They recently gave me a replacement iPhone 7 for standby drain issues when I explained it also drains while switched off. The replacement is perfect and only drains around 1 or 2% over 10 hours on standby running iOS 10.2

That's the thing, there's no way to tell if it's new or refurbished and the replacement could be either. All I can tell you is it was exactly as my original new iPhone 7 was, new mint condition with the protective cover wrapped around it. This one is the phone the original one should have been, it drained 1% in 10 hours over night Saturday night and I can get 10/11 hours usage over 50 hours standby out of a full charge!

I wouldn't even think about if the replacements New or refurbished just enjoy the replacement phone and remember that the apple refurbished phones get tested more thoroughly than the new phones from the factory, but there's only a small chance your replacement will be a refurb during the first three months after a new phones been launched I reckon anyway. Your phone has a hardware fault .. take it to the Apple Store.

Cheers

yup....yup.. yup...

official apple service for my iphone 6, 120 € to change the battery...

lets see how the phone will be after that.. lets hope that ios won't kill a brand new one battery. the technician said that the life cycle of this battery is completed.. and i agree..(cant tolerate this situation) despite the fact that my old iphone 4 is still working after 6 years and my ipad mini for 4 years with maximum everyday use...

I just met a friend of mine with a 6 plus.

She was getting the battery drain, sudden Jumps in % etc.

Just under 2 years old.

She took it into the Apple reseller in Gibraltar and their response is that she neeeded a new battery.

They also told her the number of times she had charged her battery, in her case it worked out 2 times a day or thereabouts.

Here is my point. Since September and iOS 10, I have had to charge my phone up to 4 times a day.

She is the same.

So of course it is going to drain the battery quicker and need it to be replaced.

Especially on older handsets.

Apple you are keeping quiet and lying because you know how many batteries you would have to replace if you admitted this.

My father's phone failed like this while he was alone on a trip abroad, luckily he carries a battery pack at all times. Perhaps apple should just send every iPhone user a free battery case? Perhaps they should add the weight of a battery case to their iPhone specification?

if this isn't fixed at no cost to the consumer I will end up relegating my 6s plus to 'iPad mini' and use an android phone once I have suffered through enough time to feel I have got my money's worth out of it.

I have an iPhone 6 and I'm having similar battery issues. Recently, my battery said it had 1% charge when it had been idle the whole day starting with a 100% charge. I plugged it in to charge it and it immediately read 56% charge. This is ridiculous. Apple needs to address this issue. I'm trying the 10.2 upgrade and am reading that it only makes the problem worse....GREAT!!

That's the obvious choice. I payed over 1000€ for a phone that has 1year and 1month old. I had an iPhone 5 that worked perfectly. Now my supposedly improved iPhone 6S Plus is falling like my iPhone 5 never did.

I always defended the over-priced iPhones because of their reliability, the software and hardware junction was perfect. Now all these bugs, destroying hardware and failing the basic function of minimal reliability.

T

he solution IN NOT buying a new iPhone 7 or swapping batteries... if Apple doesn't do anything about this I'll change to Samsung, and many more Apple fans will follow along.

After one month from the initial post and news releases on several sites, 6 editions of operating system including betas and no official position, I decided to give up.

My iPhone 6 is on the shelf, I am running my old HTC One M8 and doing just fine for the whole working day: dozens of mails, calls, surfing.

Basically what a smartphone is meant for.

I guess the problem is affecting only a limited set of customers, maybe some thousands, not enough to raise a brand equity issue, not enough to afford losing time sorting out the issue.
