iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

My wife and I have SEs purchased June 2016. Mine is not having the problem with 10.2 installed but hers has the battery issues since 10.1.1(14B150)

. When purchased, my black SE was fresh from the factory her Rose Gold model was off the shelf so they are different manufacturing dates.

Apple care tested her SE remotely and said the battery was good but suggested I take it back to the store for battery replacement (a 200 mile round trip).

I elected to postpone the service and I reverted hers back to the first version 10.1.1(14B100) dated 10/31/16 from the 10.2 version hoping the problem would be corrected

until a perminant fix is found.

FYI-There is also a second version

of firmware 10.1.1(14B150) dated 11/9/16. The problem seemed to start when the 14B150 version was installed.

The battery still goes from 100% to 1% within 1 1/2 hours. When I plugged in to recharge, it went from 7% to 30% within 5 seconds, 30% to 54% in 2 minutes, and to 100% within an hour. The battery capacity ratings jumps from 99% to 20% to 80% sporadically.

I would caution you to not update to 10.2 from 9.3.4 until this problem gets sorted out.

Ditto here with the battery issue. Charge all night to 100%, get up at 5am and check mail and other social media apps with coffee. I am using my own wifi connection (about 5 feet away) and the battery drops to 70% within the first 45 minutes. Then it just drops in chunks, 70 to 55% in the blink of an eye. Down to 44% a few minutes later ... and so forth. This morning it suddenly went to 20% and popped up the 'low battery' warning, but shut off before I could do anything. When I plugged it back into the charger it came back on at 19% and right before my eyes jumped to 79%. I could almost understand this if I was using LTE or lower and had a crappy signal, but not with 4 full umbrella bars of wifi.

The one thing I have noticed is that the drain happens faster if I open any links from inside Facebook.

This is really getting to be a PITA and needs to be addressed, apparently 10.2 does not even mention battery drain anywhere.

Same scenario for me. I'm one of the early posters in here. I'm also the one who reported this to Forbes. They're still waiting for Apple to comment on the issue. Oddly enough, I was just congratulated by Apple for a recent post in this thread for "best answer to solving the issue". I re-read my post and all I stated was that the problems everyone is having is a iOS 10 issue. Not the battery. Seems ironic that I'd be congratulated for stating what the company doesn't seem to want to acknowledge. Huh.

I'm having similar issues with 2 year old iPhone 6. I was not aware of the issues so I made a Genius Bar appointment figuring it was my battery. They tested my battery at 86% which was within specs and then reset my phone. As I'm sure you can guess, no change.

The the most consistant thing I observe with the battery is that cold weather (15-45 degree F) frequently causes the phone to shut down from 50-70% battery in 30 min-90 min of exposure.

The overwhelming opinion here seems to be an iOS software problem exists, but has anyone experienced significant improvement with a new battery?

You are lucky like me.

I guess all the unlucky ones will have to get Santa to make an appointment at the local Apple Store.

And all the sales that will generate.

So this year instead of a lump of coal under the tree you will get an iPhone battery if you have been naughty.

They are both black and the only use for them is to throw them on a fire.

:)

No it's not the battery IMO. My iPhone 6 was absolutely 100% fine until I upgraded to IOS 10.1. Unless of course IOS 10.1 actually attacks the battery in some way! I have the exact same issues reported frequently here and elsewhere, rapid battery drain, dropping from 70% to 30%, or 30% to 1%, in seconds, iPhone turning off at 30%, rebooting to find I have 60%. I know this is a software issue as Apple acknowledged it to me in a support chat. They said a fix was being worked on! That was 2 months ago. I'm so annoyed I'm going to use two emoticons: 😠😠

Shame on you Apple.
