iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

well... as far as I understand (... actually just guess 😝 ) Apple explanation, the battery *might* indeed be (at least part of) the issue

they say there's a bunch of 6s with "defective" batteries and the shutdown actually is a security feature of iOS

might be indeed that the "security feature" part got "stronger" in iOS 10.x so that some batteries do not meet anymore the requirement and a shutdown is triggered

my iPhone actually shuts down, when battery is at or below 30%, *only* if I start a call or launch any app that uses any "radio" (WiFi or GPS) which are the most demanding on battery (games apart, which I don't use)

So... if it's a firmware issue, Apple should be held responsible. I won't buy a new iPhone just because its the "solution". Apple should replace every defective equipment that came across this issue. It's not difficult for Apple to probe our devices to check if we had these battery issues...and basic log should do the trick.

Anyone tryed the beta for iOS 10.2.1? And fix on that?

I am having this same problem and it's so frustrating. I've been an apple user for the last 10 years - everything from my macbook pro to my ipad to my phone, but this issue is seriously making me consider switching to an android like my husband has. Not only does his phone take much better photos, but his battery is reliable. I took my phone in to an authorized apple service provider who ran a battery test on it and said my battery was healthy and is not eligible for the replacement battery. PLEASE HELP!

I didn't read all the posts, but did anyone try to recalibrate the battery? it worked for me.

1.- Use your phone until the battery is completely drain. Even when it turn itself off, try to turn it on again.

2.- Recharge completely without using your phone and leave it charging for 2 hours after its full (overnight)

repeat twice, the battery should be recalibrated.

I have tried to recalibrate battery with the 10.1.1 update after I first noticed the problem. It had no effect. My iPhone 6 (128GB) behaves normally until I get to ~30 % charge (sometime more and sometimes less) and then it rapidly looses remaining charge and shuts down if I don't get it plugged in. Brief recharging (on the order of 2 mins and the battery reads at or above 30%.

Wish Apple would own up to the 6 issue, and not just the 6s. I went onto the site to check if my battery would be covered and it's not. Said that I missed the manufacture date range recall. So frustrating! I've done a complete reset and added my apps back to the phone and still having the issue of it shutting down at 30% down to 1% and then turning it back on with 29% remaining. Just did it during my lunch.

Won't be upgrading my phone to anything Apple until they find a solution and own up to this mess. Either fix the iOS updates or replace our batteries. Oh, BTW... camera is having issues too with fuzziness and also crashing my phone, but yet, again, my phone is not covered under their replacement warranty.
