iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

I've noticed that the location gets activated very often, even when using apps that shouldn't need it! (I let just a few apps to use location service).
Another thing I've noticed is that after having a 100% charge, in the battery usage menu, it's doesn't show data about usage and standby ... (it actually did it just once in the last weeks!)
Am I the only one to notice this strange behaviour?I

p.s. Battery drain still happens, anyway I have to say that I never experienced the sudden shutdown of the iphone at high percentage of battery.

Hi everyone,

I had battery drain problem since 10.1.1

I let check the battery status from apple using apple support via twitter, they tell me the battery was healthy and try reset etc etc.

I tried but nothing happen...

Now after 3 days I've downloaded a free app that check healthy battery status and....the result is unbelievable ! Is it possible my battery goes down of 55% in 3 days????

Could you check yours too?

Has anyone else been going over their data plans since installing iOS 10.0 or greater? I don't have wifi just cellular and I am not doing anything different and have been going over my data amount which is costing me an extra $15 month. My phone gets very hot while charging sometimes. I totally shut my phone completely off at 100% one night and when I turned it back on the next morning, it was at 30%???? How is that even possible?? I've read other people's doing the same thing.

First time this happened I managed to catch it at 1%. Did several resets after which the battery level returned to 60%.

This has happened several more times where it has just powered off while I'm us it and an immediate attempt to restart shows the plug in to charge display. Wait around 10 minutes and the phone will restart showing the actual battery level which is never below 20%.

This issue has been in the media and on these forums for at least two updates and still no fix. I'm not going to buy an iPhone 7 hoping that the newer phone will cure this(and because there's no headphone port ;p)

I updated to iOS10.2 on Wednesday and the update did not solve any of the problems,s that started with iOS 10.1.1 update. I had my battery replaced under the iPhone 6c battery recall on Saturday afternoon ( 9/17/16 @2:30 PM EST). I picked up the phone with new battery @ 4:00 pm and charged it 100%. I unplugged it @ 6:00 pm @ 100% and by 8:30 pm (2.5 hours constant use) phone was still @ 75%. I did not plug it in when I went to bed and phone was at 65%. Woke up this morning with phone @ 62% and have been using constant since 8:30 am this morning and phone is @ 43%. While the Battery may have been part of the issue I still believe iOS 10.1.1 update was the real culprit. I am wondering though that since the battery need to be disconnected from the logic board during replacement if the disconnection and complete removal of power from the logic board wasn't part of the solution.

So my recommendation now is that IF you have a iPhone 6s that falls under the recall to get the battery replaced free of charge. If your phone is older and/or is not covered by the recall then maybe battery replacement at a cost of $80 would be a viable alternative to buying a new iPhone for $600-$900.

I have a 128GB iPhone 6 and I first noticed the 30% bug with iOS 10.1. Phone behaves normally until I get to ~25-30% of battery charge and then suddenly drops to 1% and shuts down. If I quickly attach it to a charger, it jumps back to 30+% and appears to run normally again. Last week I updated to 10.2 and today it happened with >50% of the charge on the battery. Within seconds it jumped to 1%. I immediately plugged in the phone and was back to a 68% charge within a minute.

Would like to know if there is a fix.

Best,

-Chris
