iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

Hi,

I just want to explain everyone that it worked for me (and I had the issue for more than 3 month).

I've not seen yet any comment in this discussion regarding people who replaced the battery and who are complaining that the issue is still there.

So I just want to help, it worked for me, and I want to be helfpul as i know how frustrating is this battery issue.

You're free to try or not.

I recently upgraded (through Sprint) my 2 year old iPhone 6 64gb to an iPhone 6s Plus 128gb, with the intention of giving the 6 to my teenage son for his first cellphone.

As I wrote before, I have experienced the accelerated battery drain on the 6, which is running 10.2. Some of the issues has been lessened by using "low power mode" and not using bluetooth. But the issue persists and I hope my son's phone will eventually work optimally with a software fix (or free battery replacement).

The 6s plus came shipped with 10.1.1. This must mean it had a more recent manufacture date? I was hoping for iOs 9.3, or at least 10.0. Nevertheless, I have NOT had any battery issues yet. Could it have one of the newer batteries? Beats me.

I refuse to update to 10.2, though. I am monitoring the battery status through the battery life app. Though I hope it won't, if the 6s Plus deteriorates as well, I will be sure to post an update.

I have the same issue on my iPhone 6.

I called, chatted and went to Apple Store. But they claim I need to pay for a new battery despite my clearly explaining that battery issue only occurred the moment after installing iOS 10.

So I tried to post my woes on apples discussion last week. On 12/16/16, I got an email from apple that said this:

"We removed your post "

iPhone 6 battery drain/shutdown after iOS 10 install" because it contained a poll or a petition. We understand wanting to share experiences, but these forums are meant for technical questions that can be answered by the community."

Looks to me like apple is trying to hide something. I believe they are trying to kill all of our phones and force us to buy new phones....

I've tried all the usual suspects to "fix" my phone....restart, hard restart, restore, and now my latest....installing iOS 10.2.

Now I can watch my battery drain WHILE it is plugged inton charger...

To be clear, I am NOT polling...Any help fixing would be appreciated!

Hello,

iPhone 6 64GB iOS 10.2

I did the following test:

Using iPhone until battery goes down to 30%

At 30% shuts down (expected :-D)

Trying to turn it on but it requests to be plugged and charged

Performed hard reset while is off

iPhone starts with 23% battery!!! (Did not expect that)

Now I'm using it until it dies completely to perform battery calibration, but it works!!!

I will analyze the error log in case there is some hints.

There is definitely something wrong with iOS can't explain such behavior and I hope we get a fix soon.

I will keep you posted with any other findings.

Georgios, i'm experiencing very similar issues with my 6 Plus

iPhone 6 Plus 64GB iOS 10.0.2

Usually shuts down around 30% when using GPS based Apps (ie Maps, Pokemon Go, etc). It seems that the phone/battery is more stable when using talk, text, and regular data (safari). It will maintain a phone conversation way below the 30% threshold, but Pokemon Go forget about it you are a goner at 30% 😟

As Georgios mentioned I was able to do a hard restart once, where the phone died around the 30% mark, and called for the charger to be plug in, tried hard restart and it came back to life with 18%. At the point when it came back with 18% I stopped playing Pokemon GO 🙂, but was still able to go into my Onstar app and use the remote start function to start the car. The phone stayed on until i reached the car where I had a charger. But the hard restart only worked once, so cross your fingers when trying it the phone may come back up. To me it seems the problem is related to something with GPS functionality, but that's just me.

Hope this helps someone.

I had all the same systems expressed in these many pages. I was fortunate enough to be on the 6s battery replacement list. My battery was replaced 7 full days ago. I am running 1.5-2 days per charge again- like I did when the phone was new. I have had no further instance of sudden shutdown since the battery was replaced. Not sure which cases will be solved by battery replacement- but it appears mine was one that was solved.

So, I replaced the battery. Still see some erratic battery life. Spoke to a senior advisor for the 2nd time and he did not have anything to offer, other than getting a out of warranty replacement phone for 299$ Sigh... I am not ready to spend another 300$. Mine is an iphone 6 64gb. Wonder if they would offer an upgrade to iphone 7 for a little more. Still a lot of money to throw out.
