iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

I have IPhone 6s. It is in the S/N list for battery replacement. I had no issues until I upgraded to 10.1.1 this week. Now my phone is shutting down and restarting daily if it gets in 30-35% range. I am sad I decided to load the new code. It is a battery killer for sure! I was eligible for the battery replacement, so I did that today. Will be interesting to see if there is any impact. My expectations are low.

Mine was OK yesterday - The first time in ages, I managed to get 4 hours of actually use out of it and nearly 14 hours in standby. Today however was a whole different story, screen shots taken within one minute of each other.....First screen shot was before I plugged it in, 2nd and 3rd was plugged in. The only saving grace was that the phone didnt actually bomb out on me this time.

Doesnt seem to be a hardware issue. A 2 year iphone 6 should have a 50% battery wear which is normal; though the guys at apple will say that the battery needs replacement. At 50% capacity, you can still get through the day on an average use and needs charging at the end of the day. Issue is that iOS is unable to provide an accurate indication on what the battery level is.

I can handle shorter battery time when its predictable and I can plug in and charge the phone when the phone battery is getting low. What is unacceptable is that sometimes the phone shuts off at between 30% and 50% without any indication. Just makes using the iPhone a pain unlike before. Kinda make paying the premium for the iphone pointless. And with ios10.2 not fixing the problem, it will be months before we see any hope of this getting fixed soon. Never thought I would say this. but as my frustrations grow... so does my interest in smartphone alternatives which offers 80% of the functionality and usability of an iphone at half the price. sigh....

I am having the exact same problem on my 6s but with the new IOS 10.2. Previous IOS 10.1.1 had no battery drain problems for me, now battery drain is horrible! Tonight I got home, battery was a 29% percent, sat on my night stand in standby (no background apps and screen was off) the battery dropped to 17% in less than one hour of none (standby) use.

I've used iPhones for the past several years since the 3s so I have many years of experience to compare. Sadly this release of IOS 10 has been a horrible experience for me. From IOS 10.0 through 10.1.1, I experienced constant lockups with the dialer app and contacts app. Now with version 10.2 the dialer/contacts apps lockup problem seems to be resolved, but the battery drain problem is a nightmare.
