iOS 10.1 Battery drain

Hello.

Updated my iPhone 5 to iOS10.1 and have been having battery problems.

1 - It jumps from 30% charge to 1% in a few seconds then shuts down.

Now here is the stranger part.

As soon as it reboots after connecting to a charger it show 30% charge. When I unplug it right away it still shows 30% and runs like nothing happened for a good few hours.

So it goes from zero charge to 30% in the time it takes to reboot? Strange.

2 - Shutting the phone down at night with a good 80% charge, it won't reboot in the morning due to no battery charge. I plug it in and its back to 30% in a few seconds.

Thanks for any suggestion in advance.

Hello genya,

Yes, it was batteries all along. New batteries resolved the issues. iOS 10 only hid it. Myself and a few other Apple customers worked hundreds of hours to bring this in the open with proof. You likely read some articles I contributed to. Key in this process was 'proof.' Some of us had no coding science but enough electrical knowledge and studies to identify the battery as the only possible culprit. Hopefully when you left the forum a year ago you went and changed the battery, not the phone. Some geniuses knew, some did not. Either case, in the end, Sr Apple management made the decision we wished for: full admission and a solution. My preferred solution is a new tech, solid state batteries, will see about that.

More likely that they are not bothered given that 10.2 doesnt even attempt to acknowledge and fix it.

If thats the strategy they are using to "help" upgrade then they are using the wrong strategy. I have been using iphones since iphones 3s and I buy a new phone every year as me and my wife uses iphones. (I usually buy the non S models whilst my wife gets the S models). And the reason for my loyalty is:

1) Truly innovative products with features 2 generations ahead of its competition.

2) Reliable products even after 2 years. (even with 2-3 ios updates, the phones still feels snappy when operated and works error free)

3) iPhones do command a relatively good used prices which subsidizes the upgrades.

Currently, the iPhones being sold is on par with its competitors (with some features copying the competition like notification bars and being water resistant), not reliable since ios 10.1 and because of the battery issue, no one wants to buy used iphones with battery issues. Hence, the urge to change is at its peak... for me atleast.

I think you are not the only one feeling this way. The most frustrating part is when you call Apple tech support and they are so arrogant and adamant that there is nothing wrong with their firmware that would cause premature battery failure. The non ownership of the problem on Apple's behalf is what really frustrates me. What about "we acknowledge that there is an issue and we are working hard on a fix for our customers?" I guess integrity and honesty definitely don't supersede the ultra high level of arrogance at the almighty Apple company.

Hi, i also experiencing a horrible battry drain, currently on Iphone 6s plus ios 10.1.1-10.2.

Before i go to sleep, the battery was at 100%, but when i woke up 7 hours later, it left with only 15% power.

It never happen before on ios 10.1, but since i upgrade to ios 10.1.1 then 10.2 last night, the problem are still there. I already try several guide to settle this problem (i.e hard reset, clean install, turn icloud off, etc), but none of them are success. Is this realy the hardware problem or more to software problem? because the battery replacement will cost me arround US$ 200 in Indonesia.

Thank you

Apple knows what's going on. You can be assured of that. If they acknowledge how big of a problem they have publicly they will have millions of customers running into Apple stores, sales will fall, their stock price would be impacted and confidence levels would drop in the products. Its risk management. My guess is they will quietly slip in a software fix soon and this will go away. The only public response has been some 6S problems and we all know its other models as well.

I find it absolutely disgusting that with a 73 page (so far) thread with reports from 4S owners all the way up to iPhone 7 users, that Apple has still not acknowledged this widespread issue for anyone but a handful of 6S phones.

It appears that the latest 10.2 software does nothing to fix the problem.

Also it is equally disgusting that the Tech Press is practically ignoring the wider issue.

Apple used to pride itself on its customer service and the fact its products, "Just Work".

Right now they're behaving like a huge Ostrich burying their head in the sand and hoping the problem goes away.

I hope this silence doesn't mean they are doing nothing about it.

Unfortunately until the Tech Press start asking some probing questions of Apple as any self respecting journalist / publication should do, the paying customer is left in the dark.

That's why you need to make sure everyone you know with the problem posts on this thread.

It's not as if they need a separate forum login to do so. It's their Apple ID, so it's easy.

To the OP - is there any way you can edit the title to remove the reference to iOS 10.1 now that we know 10.2 also has the same issue please?

Perhaps you could mention, "Early Shutdown" or something.

Have you check your logs under the Diagnose menu?

I have a LowBatteryLog entry for every time my phone goes off.

I have an iPhone 6s running 10.2 and my serial number is not in the Apple Program for replacement. I'm experiencing this issue since all iOS 10 betas to iOS 10.2.

This is one example from last night, when I had a shutdown at 16%. After that, I've tried to power on the phone again and after some trial and error the phone went back with 16% battery left (as described by several users in this thread).

Wow, well spotted, I had a look but because I am hardly using my phone and I pretty much have it connected to a charger all the time, I cannot see any of those entries on mine recently.

There are some for 17th November, so before I or Apple knew about the issue basically.

Apple should have these logs as I got them to remotely diagnose and also went into my reseller to diagnose as well.

I will try to use it substantially tomorrow and see whether anything happens.

Adrian.
