Unknown error 8392

MacBook Air running Sierra 10.12.1, iTunes 12.5.3.17

Open Apps/ Updates

I try to update an individual App and it fails immediately with "Unknown error 8392"

I attempt a couple more times and it updates!

This was the case on the previous level of iTunes as well.

MacBook Air (11-inch Late 2010), macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

Update to my post on the 4th. Saturday afternoon updates started working again. iTunes Mac, iPhone and iPad all downloading updates normally. Received an email from apple support suggesting that I sign out of turns and app store, clear safari cookies and resign in.

Unfortunately the issue returned this afternoon. Again on all 3 pieces of hardware. Tried suggested fix, but it didn't work. Same issues continue. Ran speediest on net - exceeding expected speed. No issues connecting to my companies website all day.

Something has changed on Apple's end - iTunes or Sierra. Sent reply to Apple Support - will give update after I hear from them.

Unfortunately I do not have a solution, but wanted to reach up my hand and say "Me too". It is obvious it is a common issue and one that Apple/iTunes support should look into.

However, what struck me while reading the posts here, is that I for a long time have had a similar issue when updating my phone and pad wirelessly ("on the go"): When updating my phone/pad over a network, I almost daily run into an issue where I have to press "Update" (or "Update all") repeatedly before it seem to "hook on" and start to download. Before iOS 10, it even made the whole update process freeze and restart my phone.

Maybe this is actually the same issue?

I came to think of it when a poster mentioned that he clicked "update all apps" in iTunes repeatedly, and then it started.

Maybe it is something about the update process itself, because my solution on this issue has been to just delete the app "blocking" the update process and then go to the store and download it, which has been without problems.

Just my two cents.

Best wishes,

Espen :-)

No solution here but I have some additional data that should help narrow the issue:

I have exactly the same problem running iTunes 12.5.3.17 on a PC running Windows 10pro 64 (build 14393). The problem is clearly intermittent and appears to be random. I have observed "unknown error 8392" over the past week or so after trying all of the following:

- "Update all Apps" occasionally works for some random number of apps and then fails completely while updating one particular app. "Update all" has only worked completely one time since this problem appeared.

- I have tried "Allow simultaneous downloads" both ON and OFF with the same result.

- Updating an individual app also randomly fails (more often than not).

- Rebooted system.

- Logged out and logged back in to iTunes.

- Deleted iTunes (and all other Apple software) and reinstalled.

- De-authorized and Reauthorized my computer.

I tried "Run Diagnostics" (under iTunes "Help" menu) with everything except "Network connectivity tests" turned OFF. The "Secure link to iTunes Store" test FAILED. Per the "Help" link, I cleared the DNS cache on my system which did not eliminate the problem. The log from this diagnostic test indicated that everything was normal and working with my network adapter and configuration. However, this log file also included the following:

Connection attempt to Apple web site was unsuccessful.

The network connection timed out.

Connection attempt to browsing iTunes Store was successful.

Connection attempt to purchasing from iTunes Store was successful.

Connection attempt to iPhone activation server was successful.

Connection attempt to firmware update server was successful.

Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.

The apps on my iPad (Gen4) and my iPhone 6s plus are successfully updating when I explicitly initiate the update. They don't seem to be updating automatically in the background.

My conclusion is that this problem has nothing to do with our computers, iTunes software settings, or devices. I suspect Apple has some problem with the inbound channels on their application update server.
