Unknown error 8392

MacBook Air running Sierra 10.12.1, iTunes 12.5.3.17

Open Apps/ Updates

I try to update an individual App and it fails immediately with "Unknown error 8392"

I attempt a couple more times and it updates!

This was the case on the previous level of iTunes as well.

MacBook Air (11-inch Late 2010), macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

The same as everyone else. This error occurs with approx. 25% of the updates. There several ways to start an app update in iTunes:

- via right click on app icon

- via left click on app icon

- via Update button in bottom right

- via iTunes store

Some may work when others generate the error or all may generate the error. No pattern is evident.

Basically, persistence pays off and the app updates after multiple attempts.

Clearly the issue is for Apple to address. One day it will simply and silently vanish.

I'm getting this for the majority of around 100 apps that are awaiting update in iTunes for Windows 12.5.2. I can't see any pattern to what downloads, and what doesn't. This has happened in the past (months ago) and the solution was to update one at a time - and eventually I've found that even the ones that were "stuck" will then download.

I've been having this issue as well for the last few weeks, but up until now I had a message of Network Connection Timed Out, as opposed to only today having Error 8392, and that made find this thread...

In a way I'm happy because I thought it was only me having this issue!!

I have to agree, Apple's updates lately have all been very hit and miss. iOS updates on the devices themselves require multiple attempts until the update actually starts, then they can take a long time despite fast internet connections, and now this whole crap with iTunes...

Just saw on Reddit someone suggesting the following Terminal command:

sudo softwareupdate --clear-catalog

could help.

Has anyone tried it?

Apple support was also completely clueless about all of this...
