iCal will not send if location is added to event

I Confirm that I have noticed imaps running very slowly as well and have switched to google maps too.

Hi everyone! Long and interesting Apple support conversation today. We found that calendar events will send to invitees with locations if I did not choose the location from within my contacts. If I began to type the geographic location and chose from the "suggested" physical addresses or chose a literal "pin drop" location, the invitee received the calendar invitation. It is a work around at this point, but will get the job done. By Tuesday my support advisor feels sure that we will know more from Apple engineering and the findings from today's testing.

Unfortunately that is all I do is pick the location from the suggested maps list or literal pin drop. For me, it does not work. Wonder if anyone else is having some luck and if so, what are you doing to make it send? Can someone send me a suggested address to put in?

I was unable to get this to work either. If the what is entered into the location field links to Apple Maps the invitation will not send. It does not matter if it is a location from my contacts or a new location altogether. If I enter something in the location field that does not link to maps, like entering "clothing store" it works fine.

thanks but thats not how it works for me... i am usually choosing a suggested location.... and it definitely does not work.. but thanks for the post! man i hope they work this out... as its obviously not something that "we are doing" but something that is messed up on their end.

I just want you to know that what we thought worked earlier today was not repeateable tonight and did not work for me either.

I just booked a movie for tomorrow night and accepted the calendar invitation from Fandango. It had a location already in it and of course and when I added an invitee, it didn't work. I edited the invitation and typed in the address and also tried picking it from a pin drop. It still didn't work. I then created a new calendar entry and typed the address in and it still didn't send to my invitee.

So disappointed ....after 3.5 hours of troubleshooting....so very disappointed.

Sent report to my Apple senior advisor.....Back to the drawing board.

Just wanted to say that I'm relieved to have found this thread and to say, 'me too'.

I have found a slight workaround: if you share not just an event but an entire calendar with someone else, then all events you create within that shared calendar (even with map locations) will share to the recipient.

If I try to share an event from an unshared calendar with map location data with that same person...well, you know the rest.

I have found that if I type in the street address directly (rather than the business name), then it will send...but this does not always work. e.g. instead of 'Smoke Jazz and Supper Club: 2751 Broadway, New York, NY 10025' I just type in '2751 Broadway, New York, NY 10025' and that seems to work...mostly.

I know what you mean! While I was on support yesterday with Apple, we were able to make calendar entries that had invitees on it go through by using a pin drop or typing in the address. However it's not constant. And yes, shared calendars have no problem. Thank you for your input and I'm glad you found this thread too! I know I was glad to find it as well!

This is VERY interesting and I'm pleased I found this thread. I'm an independent Mac support guy but this is a new one on me. A client has recently had big problems with event invites not sending and the reason was, seemingly, completely random.

I discovered that events shared with notes that included symbols such as @ or : did not send invites. However, they tell me that this worked fine up until a few weeks ago. I tested with locations too but didn't find a problem.

None of their devices are new.

They are using Yosemite 10.10.5 and devices with a combination of iOS 9 and iOS 10 on. I think I'm pretty confident in ruling their local Calendar app or devices, or even the OS.

I think that iCloud Calendar has changed the behaviour in the way that it parses text within events, be that the title, the location, a URL or Notes. Someone above mentions Lunch - 6 Bells; maybe it doesn't like the - symbol?

I'd appreciate it if someone could try an event (with an invitee) with notes added, such as "L@10:00" without quotes and report back. Many thanks.

Finally, a workaround in their situation is to use a shared calendar which seems to have no such trouble with these symbols.

I tested your example: I created an event and added L@10:00 in the notes and the event did not send. I then deleted the text in the notes field and updated the event. It then sent!

Thank you MicBarry. It's def a bug with iCloud and how it parses certain characters then, although it apparently worked fine a few weeks ago. Very strange.

To conclude icloud has a serious problem, have suffered with this problem since 28th Nov. I have spoken to apple tech support whom have escalated this with the engineers and still have no answer. I must confess really disappointed with Apple !!

Hi. Would some of the discussion group please try to create calendar entries with invitees to see if it is working for you now? I've just had a call from my Apple technical support and tried sending an invitation with an invitee and it worked. I can't guarantee it will work for everything I use it for or if it will work for everyone. (He was unsure if this was a fix for my specific Apple ID or across the board). However, if you still have the problem, he asked that you please make sure to let Apple support know that the problem still exists.

Not working for me. Just tried an invite with an address from Apple Maps and it would only go through when I deleted the address link.
